I like when bands shout 1 2 3 4 in the MIDDLE of a song (Local H does it a few times), giving us some advance notice that cool shit is gonna happen.

Also: just got through listening to the upcoming Waylon Jennings box set. After he entered his outlaw phase (and ESPECIALLY after he started recording with his road band rather than Nashville studio guys), you could always hear him egging on the musicians everytime the band was about to throw down...usually something simple like "...alright." (I think he's definitely doing this on "Honky Tonk Heroes," when the song changes tempo after the beginning.)

In "The Cover of the Rolling Stone" when Dr. Hook yells out "ROCK AND ROLLLLLLL!!!!!"... and you hear this atrocious out-of-tune electric guitar solo by a guy that clearly can't play the guitar to save his life and at the end Dr.'s like "Aw man, that's beautiful."

i always heard it as "maybe twice," although that's definitely one song where no lyric is clear or makes complete sense
