red light district had some pretty horrible singles, and "act a fool" was already a super hacky joint (even tho it's pretty decent), but his single previous to "money maker" was "pimpin all over the world" which is of course a classic. "money maker" really signaled his initial descent into total hackdom culminating in "my chick bad" -- the worst single of 2010 -- imo

i never got why people hated "stronger" so much -- it's one of the best songs off that album, easily

swizz's sampling of justice has kind of pwnd kanye's sampling of daft punk but i always thought it was a great move on ye's part -- i think it's one of the only times on graduation where he actually lives up to his stated goal of making stadium rap as influenced by U2 or w/e -- so much of that album feels minor to me, and the stuff like "big brother"/"homecoming" at the end is mushy in a bad way -- "stronger" actually felt 'huge' to me

a) "gold digger" is the best pop song of the past 5 years

b) loved both songs at the time, have had almost 0 desire to hear them since. don't have any more use for revisionist "lose yourself" hate (worse than "crack a bottle" wt-effing-f?) than revisionist "big boi is the real genius" bunk

c) "drop it like it's hot" is p much the last great thing the neptunes did before they fell off or snoop has done since the mid-90s all time classic for real

California Gurls does convey some sense of trashy, adolescent fun, while I agree, it's not sexy. Empire State of Mind does quite the opposite of making New York sound cool to these ears, though; the abundant cliches make it sound like it was written by someone who takes shopping trips there once a year.
