MN winter is cruel enough to live through as a human, why subject an ADORABLE PUPPY to such nonsense?

Well, waiting for good stuff to happen is annoying, but a lot less bad than anticipating bad things, right? So how much worse would it be if you were anticipating your dog dying in the spring?

See, now don't you feel better? Think how happy you will be on a warm spring day with your new, cute puppy (or puppies)! In the meantime, enjoy your freedom and go see a lot of movies. (That was the advice I got before Alex was born, and I think it could at least somewhat be applied to dogs.)

So you're saying your child is a dog.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 9 October 2008 00:25 (sixteen years ago) link

My dogs keep me awake with their farting and grunting. And they also like to sleep in the doorway so I will trip on them.

Bah, dogs.

Those bernese mountain dogs are really gentle and smart as well as beautiful. I've never had one, but I've lived with two, at different times.
Good at parties, good with kids, good with kitties and other dogs.
I don't even like dogs that much and I LOVE those dogs.

FYI Burnese Mountain Dog Tai (sp?) in last nights westminister working group comp was v v pretty

http://video.westminsterkennelclub.org/player/?id=0#videoid=1006781

also recommend: newfoundland

to inspire myself, i turn to myself (sunny successor), Wednesday, 11 February 2009 17:47 (sixteen years ago) link

i should amend this to waiting until late summer. lady dog does not go into heat until april apparently :(

newfoundlands are also super cool. i watched the working group part of that last night and was kind of geeking out about the harlequin great dane too.

in general dog info, they really need to stop doing that weirdo lion cut on portuguese water dogs, they are cool looking if you dont do that to them.

From Rax to Rich's (jjjusten), Wednesday, 11 February 2009 17:53 (sixteen years ago) link

what the hell is that cut? so weird. they also need to stop cutting great danes ears because the big floppy natural ones are so much prettier and less ouchier.

to inspire myself, i turn to myself (sunny successor), Wednesday, 11 February 2009 17:57 (sixteen years ago) link

also akc needs to recognize blue merle great danes. THEY EXIST AKC DEAL WITH IT.

to inspire myself, i turn to myself (sunny successor), Wednesday, 11 February 2009 17:58 (sixteen years ago) link

see the nice thing is that its fairly safe to assume that dog breeder anti-hotlinking stuff is not going to be goatse.

yeah some of the akc rules are just irritating. at first we were going to get a german shepherd dog, and when we called looking for long haired ones (which i grew up with and prefer) some of the snottier breeders deigned to give us a lecture about how long-hairs were only available from bad breeders because they aren't breed standard, to which i was pretty much "stfu dont care just want dog".

From Rax to Rich's (jjjusten), Wednesday, 11 February 2009 18:02 (sixteen years ago) link

god that top pic comes from a website with step-by-step instructions on how to tape your great danes ears after brutally cutting 2/3 of them off.

to inspire myself, i turn to myself (sunny successor), Wednesday, 11 February 2009 18:10 (sixteen years ago) link

"Proper taping is as important as a pretty and long crop."

waht?

to inspire myself, i turn to myself (sunny successor), Wednesday, 11 February 2009 18:10 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah initially K thought that GS had docked ears and was totally opposed, but when i explained that that was just how they were, she was cool with them again.

docking ears and tails and so on is just such a weird thing for people that supposedly love dogs to do, it just creepes me out.

From Rax to Rich's (jjjusten), Wednesday, 11 February 2009 18:11 (sixteen years ago) link

my step-dad used to show great danes and all those peeps were creeps.

i love how BMDs have giant paws even when theyre puppies

they had like shitloads of breeding dogs under one roof, also when they weren't breeding bernese mtn dogs for their "loving affection and family attachment" they were breeding bull mastiffs "selected for territoriality and aggression" under a different name. also got a heads up from peeps in the BMD local club to stay away.

no fear, we haff been referred to another breeder with a dog that will be having its litter this fri apparently so that would mean we might have a dog by the beginning of June

unattainable panini (jjjusten), Sunday, 24 May 2009 20:53 (fifteen years ago) link

I am afraid of the whole concept of puppy proofing. Possibly because I was terrible at baby proofing... somehow I bet puppy proofing is worse. At least with babies, they start out unable to move around much on their own.
