Sounded like the dawn chorus this morning consisted of seagull squawks. Maybe that happens a lot near the seaside.
But did sounds remarkably unmelodic.

Whereas I heard a track from the first Swans ep earlier that sounds like it couold have been done by them a few years later so far from a Swanssong

swans and seagulls are both pretty gay, seagulls less loved by people so I'm more inclined to side with them

otoh bad band I wish people would stop talking about, no opinion on the FC

Are seagulls flying rats? Or is that pigeons?

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Sunday, 20 August 2023 15:18 (one year ago) link

pigeons are "flying rats" but also they are domesticated rock doves and have been very poorly treated by their former friends the humans.

they also have beautiful colours in their plumage that no one notices because we've been trained to hate them like we hate all life that manages to cling on in our urban hellholes

the flying rats here used to be red kites but we murdered them all

About this time last year I was at the red kite breeding centre in Rhayader and saw a couple of hundred being fed at the same time. All swooping down in formation.

that is cool I've only seen them a couple of times flying solo in the country but they are so cool and I love them way more than my ancestors who wiped them out of the city

I was very surprised to see seagulls in Montana, since we don't have, you know, the sea. But I did see them in exactly the same place I used to always see them back in NJ: hanging out in the parking lot outside Target. (FTR, they're relatively recent arrivals, having come from California about 10 years ago.)

Anyway, voting for swans the bird because I remember reading that M. Gira named his band after them because they were so pretty, but also hateful and violently aggressive.

I went out the other say to feed ducks on the river Cam with my 8 year old (who loves ducks) and you know what, no ducks there, no geese, no swans, no moorhens, certainly no herons. Just a single gull hovering overhead. very disappointing.

Poor old city pigeons are only manky because they live in the city. Out here, in the glorious countryside (suburbs), we have sleek, well-fed, purple grey pigeons with intact feet and clear eyes. Our dogs absolutely hate them. They burst out of trees in the garden and flap around noisily and the dogs chase them. Good times for everyone.

My parents have pigeons living in their garden who like to get it on in the evenings on the wall outside the kitchen, usually when my parents are having their tea.

Less popular than Brighton & Hove Albion FC. Ouch.
