alternative question for those who would prefer to avoid thinking about trump and musk for a few extra minutes today:

You are completely gagged and immobile. Would you rather have your eyeballs chewed out by:

- a rat
- a rabid weasel

gotta go with rabid weasel!!

z_tbd, Sunday, 9 February 2025 19:21 (one week ago) link

wait can the weasel be one of the presidential options?

scott seward, Sunday, 9 February 2025 19:27 (one week ago) link

hm. what is the rat's position on DEI?

rob, Sunday, 9 February 2025 19:29 (one week ago) link

scott the weasel can absolutely be one of the presidential options, in fact the rabid weasel is consolidating support from non-rabid weasels at this very moment

The way I see him, Trump is driven by male frustration, ineptitude, he's stupid and wicked (bête et méchant). He also somehow thinks he's a great entertainer, he wants to please. That makes him the perfect politically spineless puppet because he does not care, but that also somehow gives him a line in lieu of ethics. Because of it I see him as less dangerous than Musk - Musk seems to have a purely corrupt appeal for power, while Trump looks like he's just enjoying the ride / attention.

On the other hand, the situation on our hands is Trump's legacy, and Musk so far is just an annoying footnote.

Musk reinstated Jones later in 2023, and openly Nazi imagery and propaganda have proliferated on X under his watch. Musk has also dabbled in antisemitic tropes on his own account, and last month he dismissed criticism for a Nazi-esque salute he made during a speech after Trump’s inauguration.

Ye had unleashed a fresh barrage of antisemitism on X in the days leading up to the Super Bowl.

On Friday morning, the rapper posted a series of anti-Jewish comments to his more than 30 million X followers, including “I love Hitler” and “I’m a Nazi,” drawing criticism from the Anti-Defamation League and others. Later that day, Musk replied to a conservative X user who complained that Ye was also posting pornography on the site, saying that “his account is now classified as NSFW.”

Musk did not address Ye’s pro-Hitler posts, and Ye’s account remained active on X until he appeared to deactivate it himself late Sunday. He thanked Musk in a final post, saying, “I appreciate Elon for allowing me to vent.”

i also just learned that kanye west was allowed to show an ad during the superbowl that was nothing but him telling people to go to his website, and that when people went to the website, it was just a store with one item, which was a $20 shirt with a swastika on it.

Caught just a bit of the two of them today (most shameless use of a kid since Greg Stillson). I could be way off, but it really feels like they're both playing each other, I'm just not sure who wins when one tosses the other aside.

I agree with Nabozo. Musk is worse. Given what X has turned into under his watch and these recent White House orders about Afrikaaners, I think Musk is more deeply and ideologically racist than Trump. I don’t have proof of what is in their minds, but I think Musk’s vision for America is very dark and even more alien to our democratic traditions than Trump’s. Obviously Trump is on board with it though.

There are multiple discrimination lawsuits against Tesla purporting specifically anti-black racism.

And x definitely boosts the most toxic far right accounts. I am tired of pretending it is just a free speech platform. I do not believe it — he has a message he wants to push through.

Voted Trump for somewhat superficial reasons: not that much to choose between them in terms of damage, but since the US president is always going to be everywhere all the time I'd rather deal with Trump, whom I hate and who if he had any idea who I was would hate me too, than Musk, who will never stop trying to make everyone believe he's cool.

I'm not gonna vote in this, because no. But it's very clear that Musk is running things now.

Are we sure we don’t want to do a run-off poll? Is it possible that maybe we do really like Elon musk even more than Donald trump?

Don't blame me. I voted for rabid weasel.

Trump appeals to our worst instincts in a way that I at least find kind of relatable, he wants to be rich and famous, he wants to be seen with beautiful women, he loves fast food, generally seems to find politics boring

Elon on the other hand seems completely alien to me, he's like a teenage edgelord and a tweaker and a Facebook grandpa all in one, but only the worst aspects of each
