At the 11th hour... not even the 11th hour, but at 2 in the morning on his way from the radio show, he finally called me, on the flimsiest of pretexts, and kept me on the phone, whinging, for an hour, before finally just saying Happy Valentine's Day.
So I take it all back.
Love, what a wonderfull thing. :-)

And we were going to have a party here to celebrate other good news items that are too complicated to explain, and I was going to call the guy my badmate is crushing on and invite him, and she was going to call my crush, but then my computer wouldn't start and I can't find the emergency disks and so I can't get his number -- never mind my computer being dead and my life in disorder -- and most of our friends are doing happy couple crap and dammit dammit dammit this was all going so well for a little while there...
So I am looking at iBooks on eBay. But I have no money. But maybe I will get one anyway. Computer, only you understand me.

And Happy Valentine's Day ILX!
I got a voicemail (from a satellite phone in antarctica!!!), and finally got to open the Valentine's card he gave me before he left, with strict instructions to not open it until today. Then I was feeling fuzzy & happy, and checked my email, and found an ecard & a cute email from him. It was sweet, I was all bummed out about being alone, but now I'm feeling happy Valentine's Day overload, yay.

As long as you're not smelling smoke, you're probably ok. My previous mac died in a little puff of ozone-y smelling smoke about a month ago, but it had been having issues for a few weeks before. Booting off a CD or without extensions & running Disk Tools kept it going for a bit longer...

Tonight, I met up with a boy again, who I knew casually before, and am feeling completely crushed out now. I don't want to bore the board with details but will just generally summarize in saying it's been a long fucking time since I had this much in common with someone.
It even veers into creepy land b/c he and I met about a yr ago while we were still with the exes we each moved to Dallas for who have subsquently dumped us. Then tonight we discover that major loves of our lives were involved with each other while we still were tangently involved with them!! And this is while he lived in the western US and I lived in NYC!! how fucking weird was that?!? After telling this boy I always knew I was 2nd fiddle to his ex-girlfriend in my ex-boyfriend's eyes (are you confused yet??) he told me there's no damn way I could ever be second fiddle to her.
I melt.
The great valentine pumpkin might exsist after all, kiddos.

I know he was busy. I know he had rehearsal and a photo shoot and a friend's gig and a radio show. And although he claimed he wanted to talk to me all day, I bet he only thought about me as the bus went past my house. And he bitched so much about his ex girlfriend and his unrequited crushgirl that I told him about Pliny's hair for a REALLY LONG TIME. He only wants me when I don't pay attention to him for a while, and then he realises "Wait! I don't have adoration! Where's Kate?" like I'm Adoration On Tap. He doesn't want sex, he just wants attention.
I think we're made for each other... Sigh. So why can't I stop smiling?

*but* I meet lots of people when it's late and I'm drunk and I don't feel giddy then. also I don't think i'm desparate this time (not that that is unheard of in my case) e.g.: someone is driving up from Austin tomorrow b/c they are dying to hang out with me (i am, 'eh', on the subject); and I still have the philosophy professor and surf-garage guitarist hanging around the sidelines. so i'm not desparate.
maybe just none of these people have pushed the right combination of buttons so far.

I did get a Bob the Builder valentine from my son
My best friend's (still married, about to be divorced but still living with soon to be ex wife because it's cheaper) allows as to how he proposed to said wife on Valentine's Day, and how he's not sure he's over her, so I get frantic "I need you" call from said friend and we go out to dinner, then get accosted at the diner by two very drunk men who want to shag, then the waitress throws them out.
We ended up going to Walmart, and I arrived home to dog wee on the floor. WhoooooooooooooooooooooooHOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

On 14 February 1779, English explorer Captain James Cook attempted to kidnap Kalaniʻōpuʻu, the ruling chief (aliʻi nui) of the island of Hawaii. As Cook attempted to take the chief to his ship, they were confronted by a crowd of Hawaiians at Kealakekua Bay, seeking to rescue their hostage. The ensuing battle killed Cook and several Royal Marines, as well as several Hawaiians. Kalaniʻōpuʻu survived the exchange. The event is also known as the Battle of Kealakekua Bay.Cook and his expedition were the first Europeans to arrive in Hawaii. They were eventually followed by mass migrations of Europeans and Americans to the islands[1] that gave rise to the overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaii, the aboriginal monarchy of the islands, by pro-American elements beginning in 1893. During Cook's initial visit, he attempted to barter with the Hawaiians and ordered his men to remove the wood used to border the natives' sacred "Morai" burial ground, used for high-ranking individuals and depictions of their gods. Ledyard says in his journals that Cook offered some iron hatchets for the wooden border around the Morai and when the dismayed and insulted chiefs refused, Cook proceeded to give orders to ascend the Morai, chop down the fence and load the boats with the wood.[11] John Ledyard also tells of an episode where Captain Charles Clerke accused a native chieftain of stealing the Resolution's jolly boat. However, the boat was soon found and the native chief was incensed by the accusation. Cook's men were confronted on the beach by an elderly kahuna who approached them holding a coconut and chanting. They yelled at the priest to go away, but he kept approaching them while singing the mele.[25] When Cook and his men looked away from the old kahuna, they saw that the beach was now filled with thousands of Native Hawaiians.[26] Cook told Kalaniʻōpuʻu to get up but the ruler refused. As the townspeople began to gather around them, Cook and his men began to back away from the hostile crowd and raise their guns. The two chiefs and Kānekapōlei shielded the aliʻi nui as Cook tried to get him to his feet.[27]Kanaʻina angrily approached Cook, who reacted by striking the chief with the broad (flat) side of his sword. Kanaʻina jumped at Cook and grabbed him. Some accounts state that Kanaʻina did not intend to hit Cook while other descriptions say the chief deliberately struck the navigator across the head with his leiomano.[28] Either way, Kanaʻina pushed Cook, who fell to the sand. As Cook attempted to get up, Nuaa lunged at him and fatally stabbed him in the chest with a metal dagger, obtained by trade from Cook's ship during the same visit. Cook fell with his face in the water.[10] This caused a violent, close-quarters melee between the Hawaiians and Cook's men.[29]Four of the Royal Marines (Corporal James Thomas and Privates Theophilus Hinks, Thomas Fachett, and John Allen) were killed and two were wounded. The remaining sailors and marines, heavily outnumbered, continued to fire as they retreated to their small boat and rowed back to their ship, killing several of the angered people on the beach, including possibly High Chief Kanaʻina. Cook's ships did not leave Kealakekua Bay until 22 February; they had remained for another week to continue repair of the mast and collect better-quality drinking water.[28]A young William Bligh, the future captain of HMS Bounty, later claimed to have been watching with a spyglass from Resolution as Cook's body was dragged up the hill to the town by the Native Hawaiians, where they tore him to pieces.[30]

Went to the spa with my partner, first time this season so we were missing it. We had a beautiful afternoon there.Despite my gentle insistence, she did not agree to try the nudist sauna (she has tried it before) so we split ways for the last session. As chance would have it, I entered when a special "ceremony" was starting: the sauna was packed and a guy from staff was there to drop liters of water and essential oil on the hot stones and to fan the room so that the hot air slaps your face appropriately. Quite a few who couldn't bear it left. When it was finished and the group was going out, a young woman fainted right there on the floor, across from where my partner was waiting for me. She said fainting naked was her worst nightmare. She couldn't stop laughing.
