Seconded, tis wonderful :)

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:54 (twenty-one years ago) link

You see how I bothered to change that message but not fix the problem that causes it?

(It was Dan's idea, btw)

Graham (graham), Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:56 (twenty-one years ago) link

TURN BACK YOU POXY FULE! could be the new 'delete ilx please'.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 3 April 2003 13:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

I kiss you Graham. You poxy fule.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 3 April 2003 13:06 (twenty-one years ago) link

Haha Graham, I think you should leave the problem now that we've got an error message that everyone loves.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 3 April 2003 13:07 (twenty-one years ago) link

I didn't get it!!! Waaaahhhhh! I wanna break ILX now so I can be called a POXY FULE!!!

kate, Thursday, 3 April 2003 14:06 (twenty-one years ago) link

Is that a threat, kate? Oh no! Delete the internet before it's too late!

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Thursday, 3 April 2003 14:08 (twenty-one years ago) link

Hey Graham, did you get my card yet? The Winnipeg one.

it happens every day again now

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 16:48 (twenty years ago) link

It happens every freaking MINUTE.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 16:57 (twenty years ago) link

Has anyone talked to Andrew directly about it? I keep meaning to.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 16:58 (twenty years ago) link

Whatever happened to Graham?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 16:58 (twenty years ago) link

You made him cry with your poxy fule hatin' ways

C J (C J), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 17:01 (twenty years ago) link

I spoke to Andrew about this yesterday. He said he's tried disabling a referrals log that was going nuts, and after he did that things really did seem to speed up significantly. But by late afternoon it was sluggish again so I dont know... I dont think Andrew looks at ILX much anymore so it may be prudent for one of the other guys with access to the SQL to be looking at this cuz obviously something's up.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 21:39 (twenty years ago) link

What DID happen to Graham?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 21:40 (twenty years ago) link

i think that graham took a hint

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 21:44 (twenty years ago) link

WHY?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 21:46 (twenty years ago) link

Have you all kidnapped him?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 21:47 (twenty years ago) link

Graham finally got our sympathy by....... not asking for it! (shockah)

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 21:48 (twenty years ago) link

maybe the recent surge of random googlers has something to do with it. i suggest deleting any mention of j0hn C3na from ilx.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 21:50 (twenty years ago) link

Or just changing the name of "I love horses" to "I love J0hn C3na and hair dye. I also would like someone to p1mp my ride."

winterland, Thursday, 1 April 2004 07:01 (twenty years ago) link

I read that above as "plump my ride". Much more interesting that way, I think...

DMTina (DMTina), Thursday, 1 April 2004 07:08 (twenty years ago) link

"pimp my cushion"

winterland, Thursday, 1 April 2004 07:10 (twenty years ago) link

"pimp my mom"

oops (Oops), Thursday, 1 April 2004 07:11 (twenty years ago) link

are random googlers really common and a problem?

A Nairn (moretap), Thursday, 1 April 2004 07:13 (twenty years ago) link

They seem more so lately than Ive noticed in the past.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 1 April 2004 07:16 (twenty years ago) link

Yes, random googlers are terribly common. They have no class whatsoever.

C J (C J), Thursday, 1 April 2004 07:26 (twenty years ago) link

Dear Sirs, I noted with interest that you and your fine compatriots are offering advice on how to get one ride pimped, if you'll excuse the vernacular. Any further information would be appreciated, thanking you in advance.

Bryan B Sure (Bryan), Thursday, 1 April 2004 07:42 (twenty years ago) link

I mean FULE. Duh. I am a FULE for that.

Super-Kate (kate), Thursday, 1 April 2004 07:44 (twenty years ago) link

Here's where the term originated in this context if anyone cares.

Bryan B Sure (Bryan), Thursday, 1 April 2004 07:46 (twenty years ago) link

ah so it is Mr. Perry who we have to thank for this phrase.

oops (Oops), Thursday, 1 April 2004 07:51 (twenty years ago) link

re graham: you could ask him he's on IM: dtcdthingy (i think is his nickname on IM)

jesus nathalie (nathalie), Thursday, 1 April 2004 08:16 (twenty years ago) link

I dont think Andrew looks at ILX much anymore so it may be prudent for one of the other guys with access to the SQL to be looking at this cuz obviously something's up.

I do look at ILX quite a bit, and give it a bit of a kick now and then to fix things up, but I just don't have time to have an involved look at why it's fucking up the way it is. Fortunately, Alan has agreed to have another look at the code in the next couple of weeks or so, so we should start to see a solution at some stage.

It's still glitchy as hell for me. Is it definitely AI crawlers bashing the server, do we know? And if so, is there anything that can be done about it?

turn of the century message board is showing its age.. time to reboot the server

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 18 February 2025 22:47 (three days ago) link

If it's corruptions creeping into lookup tables or some such problem, then transferring ilx data and operations to a new server asap seems like a good thought.

Sorry about the mess, I’m in the middle of a work trip and have limited time to diagnose. At first glance it does seem to be AI crawlers but I’ll take a deeper look when I can. Everything is backed up so there’s no long term risk, but it might be bumpy for a bit until I can fix it properly.

stet, Wednesday, 19 February 2025 07:10 (two days ago) link

There was a time where it seemed like every vacation I took I’d somehow end up on the server fixing stuff from the airport. This time it is a work trip but same deal.

stet, Wednesday, 19 February 2025 07:11 (two days ago) link

We should be like meta filter and set up a committee to organise a committee to draft the terms of reference for a working group to reboot the server

stet, Wednesday, 19 February 2025 07:11 (two days ago) link

Also: current server uptime is 987 days

stet, Wednesday, 19 February 2025 07:12 (two days ago) link
