Dead friends.

I was in the library today, and a boy passed by who for a few moments looked identical to a friend of mine who killed himself a few years ago. I was really spooked.

Do you often see people you know are dead? See them in the faces and gaits of passing strangers?

Yep.

No, see, I mean dead people among the living, as if they hadn't died. People you knew.

New anguished answers.

As I said, yep. Barbara Eversley, nice girl, liked her a lot, had a lisp, was nice to everyone. Car crash. Thinking about it I seem to see her around a lot. Keith MacKenzie, good friend of my mums, just get the general impression of him a lot.

No offence meant btw, I just never really read the question.

I'm stealing that.

Once or twice, I've "seen" a friend (not a close one, but someone who was part of one of my groups of friends in college) who died on 9/11. But I don't think that necessarily has anything to do with her death. I "see" living people I know all the time.

no.
my friend (the dead one) was like my best friend for many many years and i've never for a second mistook anyone/anything for him – i think i would cry if i saw anyone that resembled him but i knew him to well to mistake strangers

This happens to me about once a month and it makes me feel, for lack of a better phrase, quite warm and happy.

yes, this has happened to me. only twice. felt weird, then made me sad.

donna (donna), Friday, 1 August 2003 06:10 (twenty-one years ago) link

This has never happened to me - and in fact I've been very lucky, and no friend has died, so far. But I've never found this with dead relatives either.

Yes a few times. More often I wonder what my friend C, who died when she was 14, would look like now.

I just heard that a woman I know from poetry workshops has died. I didn't like her poetry but I feel really sad, and not really in the mood to go and play rounders with coworkers :(
