Holy shitburgers!!! My friend and I were just saying how July was a blur of a blur. Seems like New Year's wasn't even that long ago...

I still can't believe that anyone aside from my mother's good and dear friend Maureen would not only know but also use the phrase "fuck a duck". That's what I can't believe.

August? Oh yeah, that month. Please alert me when it's October. I'd like to feel comfortable in my bedroom again. (Not that this summer hasn't been splendid thus far. Not a single 100-plus degree temperature reading has hit us yet this year. Knock on wood, this trend will continue.)

oops (Oops), Friday, 1 August 2003 09:24 (twenty-one years ago) link

I hate August. It's the busiest and hottest month. Likelihood of ANY time off = zero.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 1 August 2003 09:43 (twenty-one years ago) link

"Fuck a duck" is a very well-known (and well-used) expression in Australia.

Hell yeah it's August motherfuckers. I got paid again. And it's Friday. Biaaaaatch!!

Larcole (Nicole), Friday, 1 August 2003 11:28 (twenty-one years ago) link

My July went on like FOOOOOOREEEEEEEVEEEEEEER. I'm so glad it's finally August! (Yay, my band has some great shows lined up this month! Woohoo, we're recording stuff for our next album this month! Rah, I'll be 25 years old this month! Siss-boom-bah, I LOVE AUGUST! [Am I the only one?]).

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 1 August 2003 12:02 (twenty-one years ago) link

oh and, MUTHAFUCKADUCK!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 1 August 2003 12:03 (twenty-one years ago) link

I like august too, and it looks as though we might be having a heatwave on my birthday which never happened when I was young enought to have parties, and which is very different from last year, when the heavens opened.

I suddenly thought to myself the other day 'gosh, are we half way through the year yet then?' before being appalled that we were a month past the half way mark :0(

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 1 August 2003 12:10 (twenty-one years ago) link

August means it's back to school time for me

Dee, you're kidding right? Here take some of ours! Please!! On the way home from my mom's yesterday I passed a bank who's temp display said 109. I'm sure this was b/c the thermomter was in direct sunlight or something, but still. . .

August = month without computer games. It's been pretty tough so far.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 1 August 2003 13:59 (twenty-one years ago) link

I've just started sweating. If this is anything like last summer, I won't stop sweating 'til September.

(cue JSBX's "Sweat", my August theme song)

Im just glad July is over. Only two more monthes till soccer season is over and I can rest my weary feet. Though I got to find a hockey team to play on this winter.

I'm not kidding, hon. We've had a relatively cool summer thus far because of the huge amount of rain we received earlier on in July. Thank goodness for hurricanes that make it to the Gulf Coast. Although I'm sure we'll probably catch up this month and in September. Argh.

And I do remember the summer when we actually did get temperature readings of around 109 - 112. It was the most unpleasant summer I've ever had the misfortune of experiencing. I nearly passed out the day we had the high of 112, because right at the peak temperature time I had to walk nearly a mile from the building I was previously in to where my vehicle was parked, and I was carrying my backpack as well. I think I was shaky the whole evening.

Rabbit Rabbit Day!

(My mom says this is some Russian tradition, on the first day of every month you say "Rabbit Rabbit Day" for good luck. Ideally, it's supposed to be the first words you say/hear that day; my mom used to wake me and my sister up on the first day of every month by bursting into the bedrooms and crowing, "Rabbit Rabbit Day!")

JesseFox (JesseFox), Friday, 1 August 2003 14:58 (twenty-one years ago) link

(although for all I know, "Fuckaduck" has just as many providentiary properties)

JesseFox (JesseFox), Friday, 1 August 2003 14:58 (twenty-one years ago) link

That sounds like a good tradition. I should try it sometime.

Larcole (Nicole), Friday, 1 August 2003 15:07 (twenty-one years ago) link

Personally, I'm glad August is here. I'll be even happier when September is here.

It's the Swiss National Day, and I have been invited to a fondue party.

rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 1 August 2003 16:13 (twenty-one years ago) link

Rabbit Rabbit Day! is new to me. I grew up to Rabits! which you say the moment you wake up for good luck for the month. I am not sure where it started in my family, As we are mostly french on both sides. I have also heard of White Rabits!

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 1 August 2003 16:56 (twenty-one years ago) link

I have also heard of White Rabits!

One pill makes you bigger, and one pill makes you small.

(I looked around online for "Rabbit Rabbit" references and found a few mentions of it, but they were all along the lines of "This is a tradition in my family." Wonder where it actually comes from. I'll have to ask mom for more background.)

Ha, try living in a country where you have to play first round qualifiers for the Champions League - our season started on Wednesday (which is odd as I am going to a pre-season friendly tomorrow)

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 1 August 2003 18:50 (twenty-one years ago) link

Ailsa, you talk as if having important games already is a bad thing! I've been missing it so much I actually watched a friendly between Liverpool and Cologne on C5! I'm even looking forward to the Charity Shield, the traditional curtain raiser for the English season. (There's a law making that phrase compulsory whenever you name that event. Except it's not called that anymore anyway, but i can't remember its new name.)
