Loosely inspired on a conversation with my wife last night, I'd like to know if this company would have a snowball's chance in Hell at success in the UK. I'm thinking no (unless, of course, they radically modify their business model).

fannie in the US = bum doesn't it? whereas elsewhere it generally refers to the, erm, front bits

Fanny/Fannie still pops up as a woman's name over here from time to time. At any rate, it isn't nearly as strong a word as, say, ass.

I remember seeing an ice-cream truck vendor in Glasgow called "Mr. Whippie's". Struck me as being pretty goofy and creepy (kinda like the name a child-molester into S&M would take on). Don't know if that impression was from the name itself or the Yank/Brit linguistic gap (though I don't think that my parents would have been thrilled about little Tad going to buy ice cream from a Mr. Whippie).

The elevators at work in the summer were made by "Schindlers Lifts". there was a company on the database called Lawless Security. Lawless being relatively common Irish name.

Mr Whippy is a common enough name for Ice Cream vans. in fact, may even be the brand of ice cream. is also used often enough to refer to that type of soft ice cream cornet

yes it's the Mr Coprophagy vans you wonder abt
