New Genesis-loving French Girlfriend

So the early-Genesis-freak and I are together and in love. I never thought it possible that I might fall *so much* for a girl who knows "TLLDOB" by heart and for whom listening to Genesis records is like a communion. She even has a tattoo on her back whose design is taken from the cover of a Genesis record or something. Amazing. Improbable. Unimaginable. Maybe that's getting older.

New Genesis-loving Answers, hehehe.

Simon, Sunday, 6 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

depends which cover, obviously: nursery cryme => one of you is a mentalist

(ps ignore me i am jealous)

mark s, Sunday, 6 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Me too, dammit. Go away, Simon. ;-)

But what's wrong with Peter Gabriel Genesis, I ask you? That means she knows "The Carpet Crawlers," a great song.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 6 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Surely she does, yeah. Leaving one's ridiculous music bias and prejudices behind is what I mean by getting older...
It's just I've ALWAYS been with girls into the same things I am.
Punky gothy glammy indie girls, in short.
Plus my ideal woman type is rather Jen Herrema-ish, so, yeah, I suppose now you see why I am amazed. I an wonderful fashion. Rocks off!

Simon, Sunday, 6 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Ned: Gabriel Genesis is BORING AS FUCK. HTH.

Josh, Sunday, 6 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Yes, but I like Porcupine Tree too. Having not heard any Marillion, I cannot comment on them.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 6 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Just be thankful it's not a tattoo of the cover of No Jacket Required.

Damian, Sunday, 6 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Josh, fuck you - Gabriel-era Genesis roXor. Simon, fuck you - stop rubbing it in!

Kodanshi, Monday, 7 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Congratulations Simon, your life is an Auteurs song!

Trevor, Monday, 7 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

RE: life as Auteurs song. My life mostly feels like 'Showgirl'.Only without her wanting to marry me bit..

oliver neilson, Monday, 7 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Having not heard any Marillion, I cannot comment on them.

The only word I can think of to describe Marillion begins with "C" and ends with "ockfarmers!".

Dan Perry, Monday, 7 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

The idea of going out with Jennifer Herrema scares the piss out of me

electric sound of jim, Monday, 7 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

So yeah. I'm the girl. My tattoo represents the fountain of Salmacis for those who were wondering. Art. I will not get into my music and try to explain. (A magic that a name would stain.) We're only what our minds assume afterall.

Veronique, Monday, 7 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Isnt she fantastic?

Simon, Monday, 7 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Veronique - my favourite French name, equivalent of my favourite English name

Robin Carmody, Monday, 7 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Ronnie? ;-)

Ned Raggett, Monday, 7 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

But anyway, hello to Veronique -- so surely you agree with me that "The Carpet Crawlers" is fantastic, yes? :-)

Ned Raggett, Monday, 7 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

A couple of years ago, I went out with a French girl called Sabine. She liked Rage against the Machine. It was only in the process of typing this that I realise it has fantastic limerick potential.

I once knew a girl called Sabine
Who liked Rage against the Machine
She whined on about Rights
Wore grim stripey tights
But at least she was relatively clean.

Quite good, 8/10 - the last line doesn't scan properly.

Edna Welthorpe, Mrs, Tuesday, 8 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

That's deliberate, punk.

N., Tuesday, 8 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

if you pronounce sabine and machine as if french, and say clean-uh as if mark e smith it scans fine

mark s, Tuesday, 8 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Hey Ned Raggett! Of course Carpets Crawlers is great. But you have to love In the cage. Gabriel twisting his thin body around his mic stand. Splashed with red lights. Oh oh i promised myself no to get into this here. It's fun that people like my name. I'm flattered. :)

Veronique, Tuesday, 8 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

It's a very cool name indeed, so smile. :-) I just recently got the Archive set -- the early one, not the later one, ick what a thought! Now the question is, can you hum "Supper's Ready" in Simon's presence without him getting mad? ;-)

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 8 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

We're not quite *there* yet, Ned...

Simon, Tuesday, 8 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Actually i never even considered doing that. Just by the look on his face yesterday when i was singing the carpet crawlers.. I'm affraid i would scare him away if he sees me enjoying supper's ready. -A flower?-

Veronique, Tuesday, 8 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

The first I hear of a woman who loves prog and she's attached. And probably in Montreal too at that. Hey, do you have any friends?

sundar subramanian, Tuesday, 8 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I'm affraid i would scare him away if he sees me enjoying supper's ready.

Ah, but Veronique, surely this is the true test of love! Besides which, has he dared to do anything in your presence which might scare you away? ;-)
