Does everyone?

To be quite honest, no I don't. In fact I don't even know who this person is. Are they the sort of person that people might think they are? Is it common for people to think they are people whom they are not? I rarely think I am someone I am not. Once I thought I was Scottish, but that is because I am fairly suggestible when inebriated. I do not think I know anyone who thinks they are someone else, but then I am not acquainted with many people with mental disorders, as far as I am aware. To be frank I think this question is some sort of elaborate code, not in the Basil Bernstein sense, but in the clique sense. There is a chance I have misunderstood everything, but this would not be surprising. It has made me deeply paranoid.

He's a character in a film, Alix. I've not seen it though.

He's the main character in Rushmore, which was a really funny movie. He's not terribly easy to describe, but he's clearly smarter and more clever than everyone else (and he knows it), and he does whatever he wants to achieve his ends. I don't think I'm him, but I have many Max Fischer characteristics.

Having seen the picture I can say with some certainty that I do not think I am Max Fischer. Thank you, R.J.G, for that. It has put my mind at ease.

I would prefer to be Max Ernst.

No, not remotely, although I love all three Wes Anderson films deeply. My fried Hugo is Max Fischer, though.

Mark Morris, Tuesday, 8 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

That's "friend Hugo" clearly, although "fried Hugo" offers poetic possibilities, no?

Mark Morris, Tuesday, 8 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I think I'm Egon Schiele. Without the knack for drawing.

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 8 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Fuck no.

I'm more of a Ralph Tresvant.

I sorta like the Fischer guy more as the drummer of Phantom Planet. And he does rather well at that.

I'm more of a Bobby Fischer recently.....

Our very own Edna and Max Fischer - separated at birth.

Thankyou, tagois, I was waiting for that one. Now, when do we start the "Do you think you are Anthony Worrell-Thompson/Charles Kennedy/Franny Lee" thread?

(BTW if any Brits have Bottle Rocket on video I am willing to hock my vital organs to procure a copy)

Edna Welthorpe, Mrs, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Don't really want your body organs Mrs W, but I did tape it off the telly once...

Mark Morris, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Mark: do you still have the tape? If so, could I borrow it? (I would buy it, but Bottle Rocket seems inexplicably to have never received a video release in the UK)

Edna Welthorpe, Mrs, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I damn well hope I've got the tape: will be absolutely gutted if I've idiotically taped over it - will have a butcher's to see whether I've actually sensibly labelled the tape & all for you...

Mark Morris, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Bottle Rocket located! Also found a wealth of other great stuff I had forgotten I had: The Red Squirrel which I hadn't got round to watching, a tape with Rashomon and Bonnie & Clyde on it... ah...
