Hmmm and also any requests/recommendations appreciated.. The more good input we get, the better the night can become!

ken c, Monday, 2 April 2007 16:15 (seventeen years ago) link

Damn, way to clash with CSS/Tilly & The Wall at the Astoria.

CharlieNo4, Monday, 2 April 2007 16:19 (seventeen years ago) link

I think you should play as many cover versions of Cobrastyle as you can find.

Matt DC, Monday, 2 April 2007 16:27 (seventeen years ago) link

I wish they'd PLAY here.

erm xpost to charlie

ken c, Monday, 2 April 2007 16:31 (seventeen years ago) link

Woo! This sounds amazing!

marianna lcl, Monday, 2 April 2007 16:32 (seventeen years ago) link

I heard about this. I'm impressed, and also a bit jealous (I was toying with doing a night a while back with a similar premise (pop music all from countries other than UK and US, maybe around half of it not sung in English neither - working title 'Xenomania'). Of course I never did anything about it. I'll be checking this out tho.

So yeah I suggest tracking down some stuff sung in Swedish if you can find some!

blueski, Monday, 2 April 2007 16:36 (seventeen years ago) link

Nice work, Ken!

Daniel Giraffe, Monday, 2 April 2007 16:40 (seventeen years ago) link

albany a good choice of venue

600, Monday, 2 April 2007 16:41 (seventeen years ago) link

Will you be promoting this to Swedish indie girls? It is urgent and key I know the answer to this.

Matt DC, Monday, 2 April 2007 16:49 (seventeen years ago) link

Srsly, you should totally try sounding out any websites for Swedish/Japanese/wherever expats in London, going 'look ppl we are playing yr pop music come along and also suggest top tuneage' or something.

Matt DC, Monday, 2 April 2007 16:50 (seventeen years ago) link

loaned to gillingham, unlikely to be picked for internationals

600, Monday, 2 April 2007 16:51 (seventeen years ago) link

I have a complete set of Poptimism Pop World Cup MP3s at home but sadly Sweden failed to make it past the group stage.

Matt DC, Monday, 2 April 2007 16:51 (seventeen years ago) link

Who knocked the Swedes out?

Daniel Giraffe, Monday, 2 April 2007 16:53 (seventeen years ago) link

swedish girls: YES.

listening to swedish tunes: right now!

websites idea: URGENT AND KEY.. also thinking about actually putting flyers/posters in embassys, restaurants etc.

ken c, Monday, 2 April 2007 16:54 (seventeen years ago) link

i hear there is a sweden music night in brighton that gets loads of swedish girls there all the time.

ken c, Monday, 2 April 2007 16:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Will there be hott Swedish boys? That's what I want to know.

Masonic Boom, Monday, 2 April 2007 16:56 (seventeen years ago) link

where hott swedish girls go, hott swedish boys follow.

ken c, Monday, 2 April 2007 16:57 (seventeen years ago) link

maybe.

ken c, Monday, 2 April 2007 16:57 (seventeen years ago) link

do swedenmademe nights still happen in london?

blueski, Monday, 2 April 2007 16:59 (seventeen years ago) link

obvious website idea: flat map of the world graphic showing nation of the month, previous nations covered etc.

blueski, Monday, 2 April 2007 17:01 (seventeen years ago) link

nice! and maybe some kind of google maps thing like those that track down distance travelled.

ken c, Monday, 2 April 2007 17:10 (seventeen years ago) link

top work, ken!

website and graphics all under construction, as the tube map would have it.

sweden is going to be sooooo cool. i don't think it will be a problem getting hott boys or hott girls.

d-pop, Monday, 2 April 2007 20:17 (seventeen years ago) link

robster, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 08:35 (seventeen years ago) link

This is less than a minute's walk from my flat, so I will probably come along.

braveclub, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 08:56 (seventeen years ago) link

sounds good, sunday night might be difficult, but i'll phone in sick on monday if needed. i've been to sweden and everything.

g-kit, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 09:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Sarah, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 09:09 (seventeen years ago) link

oh well, go on then :)

although something in the back of my mind is telling me i've something else on that sunday...

CarsmileSteve, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 09:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Please do France next OKTHXBYE.

Will you be having guest DJs? I can see Mark S rocking it when you get round to Iran.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 09:29 (seventeen years ago) link

(This may be some time, I admit)

Matt DC, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 09:29 (seventeen years ago) link

Are you running the Marathon Steve?

robster, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 09:46 (seventeen years ago) link

rob n' raz - got to get

OMG I HAVEN'T HEARD THESE WORDS IN A ROW SINCE 1990! damn i wish i could come to this. also, please to do the DSCHOERMENIE soon!

CharlieNo4, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 09:50 (seventeen years ago) link

oh it's the marathon that day??

ken c, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 09:52 (seventeen years ago) link

i should've included featuring leila k tho

blueski, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 09:54 (seventeen years ago) link

playing stuff from all different countries on the same night would also be really cool tho

blueski, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 09:56 (seventeen years ago) link

Absolutely, blueski.

Perhaps a little clarification is needed.

The night is meant to be international, as the name suggests, with (sorry if this is starting to sound like a blurb) a mix of cute, danceable, sunny, fun pop music from around the world. Sweden is only the featured country. This means there will be a generous helping of Swedish music and, if we get our shit together in time, Swedish decorations, prizes and so forth.

'music from around the world for people who don't like world music'

Daniel Giraffe, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 10:11 (seventeen years ago) link

What Daniel said, by and large.

Sarah - you will hear Le Mans. And La Casa Azul. And a healthy dose of Elefant Records types.

d-pop, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 16:01 (seventeen years ago) link

By the way, as Daniel explained before Sweden is just one of the countries that will get 'feature' status - over the coming months, expect to find Japan, France, Spain, Germany ... and most likely back to Sweden again before long.

d-pop, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 17:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Aw boo, that's the weekend I'm down, but I'll be going home by that time on the Sunday. Also, hell's teeth, teh MARATHON? Heh, doing teh sightseeing's going to be fun. No wonder the hotels were all busy.

ailsa, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 18:29 (seventeen years ago) link

Marathon eh? I should look out for songs with a running theme.

ken c, Thursday, 5 April 2007 10:56 (seventeen years ago) link

I see The Ark are representing Sweden at Eurovision. A good excuse to play 'It Takes A Fool To Remain Sane' - this is the only Ark song I know.

blueski, Thursday, 5 April 2007 11:51 (seventeen years ago) link

Marathon eh? I should look out for songs with a running theme

Hmmm perhaps we should leave that to the guys at Track and Field

Daniel Giraffe, Thursday, 5 April 2007 12:00 (seventeen years ago) link

oh dere god ;)

daniel, that is one times dreadful punne.

CarsmileSteve, Thursday, 5 April 2007 13:20 (seventeen years ago) link

d-pop, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 21:18 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm psyched!

marianna lcl, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 21:47 (seventeen years ago) link

Yo Ken, I am excited about your club too.

Keith, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 21:48 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm excited about your excitement! Are you excited enough to come down for it and air guitar on the dance floor?

ken c, Thursday, 12 April 2007 10:32 (seventeen years ago) link

Alas, I am not excited enough to do that.

marianna lcl, Thursday, 12 April 2007 15:11 (seventeen years ago) link

INTERNACIONAL is an EXCITING NEW NIGHT that will bring you the best of white pop from all around the world, with strictly no black people!

This is what you mean, no? :)

Comstock Carabinieri, Thursday, 12 April 2007 15:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Don't give me :).

And don't make judgments before we've even started, you taste-nazi idiot.

(and FWIW - Morning Musume, Jorge Ben and Tommy February6, all named on flyer - SO not what you in your narrow, categorising world would call white).

d-pop, Thursday, 12 April 2007 16:15 (seventeen years ago) link

and incidentally you obviously know nothing about us - all immigrants or from immigrant families.

World music=non-white music - was that the point you were trying to make? How wrong and how foolish. Yep - no Youssou N'Dour at Internacional. Ooh, how racist. And you have the nerve to accuse us of being narrow-minded!

d-pop, Thursday, 12 April 2007 16:38 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm totally stoked!

braveclub, Thursday, 12 April 2007 16:45 (seventeen years ago) link

yay braveclub!

xxposts comstock i hope you will come despite the white supremacy that i shall be imposing on the night :)

ken c, Thursday, 12 April 2007 18:46 (seventeen years ago) link

so is this 'cool' music or pop music? just because i was listening to roxette recently and they were SO GOOD. and i would love to have a chance to dance to them. woo.

colette, Thursday, 12 April 2007 22:02 (seventeen years ago) link

it can be arranged :)

ken c, Thursday, 12 April 2007 22:03 (seventeen years ago) link

I would of course be more than glads to come Ken but your colleague needs to pour a bucket of water on himself otherwise blood pressures leads to oxygen tents :)

What D. Pope fails to understand is that I am using it as an approvings, since white guitars and synthesiser are the sources of the greatest pop musics of recent years, as oppose to the tiredsome World Musics which are amelodic, rhythm dominate tripe.

Jorge Ben I believe rips off Rod Stewart songs :)

Comstock Carabinieri, Friday, 13 April 2007 07:14 (seventeen years ago) link

I would assume that this is Marcello attempting to do Geir but unfortunately the trolling is so bad it must be some other loser attempting to do Marcello doing Geir.

Matt DC, Friday, 13 April 2007 08:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Carabinieri is clearly trying to rile us, and I guess it's best not to rise to his tedious, patronising bait (the Jorge Ben / Rod Stewart comment for example was such a cheap shot).

Colette, I'm sure plenty of the stuff I will play isn't 'cool' in the sense I think you mean. Expect some pop surprises.

Daniel Giraffe, Friday, 13 April 2007 08:52 (seventeen years ago) link

oversensitive

600, Friday, 13 April 2007 09:59 (seventeen years ago) link

(royksopp mix)

600, Friday, 13 April 2007 09:59 (seventeen years ago) link

It's tomorrow!! Hope to see as many of you and your friends down there as possible. Fun, surprises, silliness and glorious pop music.

Daniel Giraffe, Saturday, 21 April 2007 16:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Indeed it is today. Come down if you can.

d-pop, Sunday, 22 April 2007 09:46 (seventeen years ago) link

Phew thanks to all those who came down and made the first night a success. Despite one or two minor mishaps, it all went off very well I think.

Daniel Giraffe, Monday, 23 April 2007 10:07 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't even remember any mishaps! (did i cause them?)

It was so much fun.. and hello lurker Ray!

ken c, Monday, 23 April 2007 13:17 (seventeen years ago) link

i wish i could've come but css were calling to me. when's the next one then?

CharlieNo4, Monday, 23 April 2007 13:26 (seventeen years ago) link

don't know exactly yet - provisional date 27th May (to be confirmed!).. still on a sunday, during this pilot period :)

ken c, Monday, 23 April 2007 13:37 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't even remember any mishaps! (did i cause them?)

No, I was talking about myself, Ken. I made a couple of schoolboy errors on the decks.

Daniel Giraffe, Monday, 23 April 2007 13:43 (seventeen years ago) link

sorry i didn't make it down chaps, last day before payday so skinto mcskint.

also the breakfast club was on telly

CarsmileSteve, Monday, 23 April 2007 15:12 (seventeen years ago) link

i was unwell, sorry. i can get a sick note if you require one.

blueski, Monday, 23 April 2007 15:38 (seventeen years ago) link

come to the next one! it's actually been cunningly scheduled (provisionally) on the 27th may with a view to harmonising with paydays. :))
