Pretty in Pink is really only good because of Spader and Harry Dean Stanton, even then I really despised McCarthy and Jon Cryer. Supposedly Cryer only got the role because Michael J. Fox dropped out at the last minute.

john candy's sensitive-guy turns, when steve martin unleashes everything at him just to discover that candy's character actually is self-aware and damaged and vulnerable, are great & add a depth of honesty to the tp&a. candy has an under-appreciated hurt-guy face. it's like whoa wait a minute this just got real everytime he deploys it.

I think Mr. Mom is the only one here I've ever had any particular fondness for, and that's mostly because I watched it endlessly as a kid (and also because Michael Keaton).

Home Alone works best as a drinking game where you knock one back either a) every time someone should by all rights have been killed by whatever trauma they just suffered or b) every time the elderly neighbor slurps his dentures when he speaks. You WILL get trashed.

I want to see a remake where the Wet Bandits actually sustain an appropriate level of injury and just keep going. Like they're half-obliterated carcasses just shuffling along in their determination to give that rotten kid what for.
