T/S: Getting in trouble in school for wearing metal t-shirts vs wearing rap t-shirts

For some reason, I get the feeling that the late-80s/early-90s were the prime time for this, or at least the golden age.

I can't find a decent pic of the correct ice t/n.w.a. shirts

There was a dude in my class in middle school who wore NOTHING but black, metal band t-shirts. I'm not questioning his fashion sense - Lord knows, I've made and continue to make fashion decisions others might find questionable.

BUT - another member of our class made up a song about him

in 1982 a teacher yelled at me for wearing a dead kennedys t-shirt. cuz i happened to be wearing it on the anniversary of jfk's death. oops! none of the teachers cared about metal t-shirts at my middle school or at my high school though. i happily wore my black sabbath t-shirt in the 7th grade with the skull oozing blood that formed a puddle that turned into the number 666 and nobody ever gave me any grief about it.

i bought a beastie boys t-shirt after i saw them at the ritz in new york and on the back it said: get off my dick. i always wore another shirt over it when i went to school. i didn't need any more headaches than i already had.

i was suspended from a christian private school for drawing the Metal Up Your Ass thing on my notebook. the knife had blood on it.

never got in trouble for wearing a shirt though.

I had a Dead Milkmen shirt that said "Dick Is Coming." I got in trouble within 30 seconds of walking into school with that one on.

I wore the Dead Kennedys NAZI PUNKS FUCK OFF shirt to school one day, under another shirt, and still got in trouble because someone ratted on me.

I had the Nirvana "Fudge Packing, Crack Smoking, Satan Worhsipping, Motherfucker" shirt. Can't recall getting in trouble but maybe I was discreet about it somehow?

Actually I still have it, but it's kinda huge so I would never wear it now.

i got chastised at work once because i was wearing a rock t-shirt under a (buttoned) suit jacket. i don't remember what the t-shirt was. i thought the look was cool, but i guess it didn't qualify as corporate attire.
