Was Ed Rooney the greatest character in a 80's movie? Highest of high comedy.

you are not wrong sir, not wrong at all.

"mmm, so that's what it's like in their family"

You know, I just watched this movie again on Saturday! I think Cameron is my favorite character. Ferris is just a manipulator.

Cameron is fantastic. "Look what Uncle Ed's got for ya, little fucker"

I quoted this line to my wife before I kissed her goodbye this morning!

DID you, Dan. Uncle Ed is your nickname, I see.

I remember loving this movie as a kid; I remember my 6th Form Politics tutor saying that in time, we'd come to see him for the manipulative consumerist tosser that he is. I watched it about a month ago and thought of her words.

Mind you, the style stayed with me. I've loved the combination of pinstripe trousers and converse all-stars ever since. Add to that John Cusack's raincoat from Say Anything. At which point we must crosslink to a 'John Hughes ruined my life' thread, which I cannot do.

i like the face he pulls/noise he makes when grace says 'oh ed! you sounded just like dirty harry then!' and nary a day goes by when i don't feel inclined to use the phrase 'leave my cheese out in the wind'. there's a bit in the trailer with jen grey in the school gym changing room - is that a cut scene ? i hate it when trailers do that.

what did ever happen to her by the way ?

Uncle Ed is your nickname, I see.

Okay, this is the part where everyone pretends I'm not tipsy at work and I've just written something devastatingly funny in response to Ned's jape. Cue hysterical laughter... NOW!

Oh, fuck it. I've got some Walt Mink to listen to.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Walt Mink! Oh man, haven't heard them in a long time. What the hell was that song with the creaky stairs?

Chris, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Creaky stairs? I don't remember. Whatever song it is you're thinking of, it isn't on _Miss Happiness_...

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

it was on bareback ride. i can't remember. i'll have to look at it when i get home.

two years pass...
The song is Sunnymede. I know a thing or 2 about target="_blank">Walt Mink, in case you're interested...

"Sunnymede"! My God, I need to listen to Bareback Ride now.
