fb was super cool and amazing when I was in college and you could stalk people now I just don't care about anyone. but it's too useful to have a way to msg every person in my life to delete it. but I def don't feel like it'd be hard to go without on a day to day basis.

I started on FB because my brother & sister in Australia were on it, and I could talk to them and it was really awesome, all my Australian friends were on there...then all these people from work started showing up and I was like ugh, but I've since met some other cool people on there but it's mostly still just good for catching up with family & close friends mainly.

Fb is like a Chinese finger trap. Can suck your soul away if you let it, and is less satisfying than ilx

yeah, the big plus of facebook for me is keeping in touch with local folks. local shows, parties, etc. when i put together a big day-long music show at the store last summer facebook was really handy. all my back and forth was 100% facebook. 12 hours of music at my store though and ilxors tarfumes and herb albert were hands down the best things that happened that day. ilx wins!

i made a fake facebook profile to join a network of 1000's of fakers; come join us, it's like a big parody of facebook normal usage. ok i have to say most of it is bad that's why you gotta get in there.

I like email tbh, it has problems but I finally have an email address I intend to keep for the rest of my life, will probably be the most reliable way of getting in touch with me forever. All my real friends I have other ways of hanging out with online. No need anymore to remain in constant low-level "contact" with randos from the past. I do use twitter, but I don't have to reciprocally follow people so that whole burden of deciding if I care about this person is erased.

I like ILX much more than I like Facebook, obv. I do wonder if I'm missing out on invitations to things, but then I remember that I rarely accept invitations to things anyway so it's cool.

I don't notice anything different so I guess I've just been using this one all along. I like it - it's so clean!

I like blueski. It more closely resembles one of my websites for work, so someone casually glancing at my screen is less likely to know that I'm not working.

The most insidious thing about Facebook to me is how it got so many people relying on it as a primary source of communication and only then started in on this "follow most of Johnny Bluejeans' posts" bullshit. I feel like half the posts people make are shuttling directly into the void, unseen by many. But at least I still get Spotify updates and indications of people having read ghe Washington Post!

I think facebook has actually made me sad a lot of times and it's only just clicked that that's the case

i.e. the feeling is 'Ah, there goes Person X/Y/Z, progressively further and further away from me into the Void* ...', and that only arises from seeing many regular updates – if instead I was receiving rare letters I might instead get a feeling of 'Ah, long time no contact, how warm'. Perhaps.

do y'all stay facebook friends with your exes? there's one in particular who i talk to on the phone nearly every week but who i'm not facebook friends with. hearing from her what she's up to feels really different than just having facebook send me unsolicited reminders via the newsfeed about how our lives have gone off in different directions.
