"i listen again, but it sounded like a band that needed a hot Dio injection something fierce to me."

"dude what are you talking about... 'Never Say Die' is a good album."

These two things are not mutually exclusive, and both happen to be true. I love Never Say Die.

i have to admit it sounded better on second listen. but i think i like technical ecstasy more.

M@tt He1ges0n, Friday, 19 October 2007 19:59 (sixteen years ago) link

changes is so corny. good mix otherwise.

LaMonte, Friday, 19 October 2007 20:26 (sixteen years ago) link

changes is beautiful

Well done M@tt! And if want to redo it with "Don't Start Too Late" and "Sleeping Village" (from the debut), I highly recommend this free trial version of RipEditBurn. Then, you can isolate the quiet parts, maybe throw a little flanging or reverb on top, and maybe play 'em backwards (to listen for secret backmasked messages.)

Yeah, thanks for bumping this thread -- I have these all around but it's good to hear it all in Matt's mix!

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 28 October 2007 20:10 (sixteen years ago) link

And yes, if people haven't heard all of Sabotage, you need to...

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 28 October 2007 20:10 (sixteen years ago) link

i liked it! i hadn't heard a few of those later ones before. good stuff.

I just listened to this, and imagined a new band who had this as an album. And I love that band. It almost reminds me of a krautrock band or something.

filthy dylan, Monday, 29 October 2007 02:00 (sixteen years ago) link

I tried to do the same but it's that old purple polar bear thing. Still, it'd make for one wacky ass record. An instrumental snippet as an opener and then a piece of headin' off into battle nuttiness followed by another instrumental snippet all before the first real vocal and longest track which is something from Technical Ecstasy. Some prog-folk nightmare, for sure.

And I second the love for Sabotage, the first side of which is the solidest slab of Sab ever.

Thanx, Matt!

Kevin John Bozelka, Monday, 29 October 2007 05:37 (sixteen years ago) link

And WTF is that FX thing? That's post punk I daresay.

Bimble, Monday, 29 October 2007 05:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, Sabotage is a goddam prog-metal masterpiece! Praise be to Chuckles Eddy for introducing me to it via his awe-inspiring metal book.

(I still can't believe how well this mix works, Matt!!)

my opinionation (Hamildan), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 20:10 (ten years ago) link

Are there any threads on ILM devoted to making compilations that showcase a side of an artist that might not immediately spring to mind when one thinks of said artist?

MarkoP, Wednesday, 22 January 2014 20:13 (ten years ago) link

Here's a heavier, but hopefully more blues rock Sabbath compilation I made influenced by the quiet comp.

This Sabbath rookie asks: do the post-Ozzy years have enough material to make a "Quiet Black Sabbath Album II" ?

TheNuNuNu, Friday, 3 May 2024 00:22 (four weeks ago) link

ooh that's a good question I never considered

I’d say you could definitely make a soft rock ozzy album out of the power ballads etc in his solo career. One would definitely have to include the duet with Lita Ford.
