Nobody makes classic albums anymore. Well, apart from Kasabian

I’d say he at least had the vision to have Little Simz as a guest before she blew up.

this is why I love ilxor, thanks for this poll

omg both how did this guy make it? and of course this guy made it.

I would have guessed that Trance performance came from the mind of Tim Heidecker without any context

Really stuck between the two franz ferdinand options. Both so good, and so true

i voted for "It's called Empire, which is our word for something that's fucking great" but "We will change time signatures in the middle of songs" is particularly funny coming from them

So many stand out options! I really enjoy "Not just making records, but making fucking great records"

H.P, Thursday, 18 April 2024 05:54 (one month ago) link

but "We will change time signatures in the middle of songs" is particularly funny coming from them

there's a certain pathos to the fact that, having fenced themselves into a universe where the only acceptable kind of music is aping the lad rock canon, dude is still aware that bands who shaped that canon took actual creative risks and so feels the need to reach for that as well - except the actual music can't sound like it, so it's a lot of grasping about "avante garde" and "African string sections" (lol) in interviews while the records continue to sound just like the previous one.

(this analysis probably not accurate to this solo project with Little Simz tbf, did not click)

hired a boer string quartet

I don’t know this band (so no offense) but these options are hilarious

I thought I could make a choice now but may need to sleep on these and come back

i would summarise their music as third-rate primal scream rips

ufo, Thursday, 18 April 2024 11:30 (one month ago) link

their whole sound seems to step specifically from "Pills". Wasn't long before they hired Dan the Automator.

Chuckled when I went to rym and saw that Empire is rated the lowest by a decent margin among their first few albums

Forget Alex Kapranos - I can't imagine many musicians in history give a shit about their band the way this guy does. Wonder how he feels today

Vinnie, Thursday, 18 April 2024 11:40 (one month ago) link

"Eh, it's a living"

Vinnie, Thursday, 18 April 2024 11:41 (one month ago) link

xp it's because even if you're partial to kasabian few have a use for it after track 2. they frontloaded the (relatively few) hits.

“If you walked up to [Alex Kapranos] in the boozer and told him, ‘I think Franz Ferdinand are shit,’ I reckon he’d probably agree.”

i will give them credit for at least having the decency to focus on ripping off xtrmntr, there's a lot worse things they could have done in the 'mix between stone roses and primal scream with the swagger of oasis' tradition

ufo, Thursday, 18 April 2024 12:01 (one month ago) link

The contrast between what doofuses like this promise and what the music actually sounds like, is the platonic ideal of the concept of bathos. (Insert Fast Show Indie Club sketch here).

Wonder how much he viewed Franz as the Blur to their Oasis

PaulTMA, Thursday, 18 April 2024 12:17 (one month ago) link

lol that is 100% what he was trying to conjure up and then he does the "it's just the press hyping this up" bullshit at the end. mate, you wish the press would.

"The Stones, The Who, Oasis..."

..ftw. Also, who would have been next on that list?
