there's a certain pathos to the fact that, having fenced themselves into a universe where the only acceptable kind of music is aping the lad rock canon, dude is still aware that bands who shaped that canon took actual creative risks and so feels the need to reach for that as well - except the actual music can't sound like it, so it's a lot of grasping about "avante garde" and "African string sections" (lol) in interviews while the records continue to sound just like the previous one.

i will give them credit for at least having the decency to focus on ripping off xtrmntr, there's a lot worse things they could have done in the 'mix between stone roses and primal scream with the swagger of oasis' tradition
