What don't you think gets talked about enough on ILM? Meaning - what are you surprised gets under-represented in threads here, as well as which favourites of yours don't get enough thread-time?

Inspired by Josh asking me about Stevie Wonder in IM, who's definitely in the first category.

I'm surprised that there isn't more discussion on some of the classic canonical acts, very few threads on Dylan. Or the classic albums, I don't think Sgt Pepper been done?

Not enough discussion on music pre Beatles, classical music in general or folk/world music. Then again maybe I shouldn't be surprised as I wouldn't expect the Neptunes to be discussed on a general folk/rock type message board, that's there loss of course.

More threads on Semisonic please. Len, too.

I think one of the great things about ILM is that all kinds of music DO get discussed, but every so often someone will (usually on a list thread) attack a "tokenistic" inclusion of, say, Fela Kuti or Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, but conveniently rarely bothering to recommend some non-tokenistic so we can see whether or not they were any better than the rest of the chasing pack.

I'd like to see more threads about clubs as well, from a musical and social and aesthetic point of view. I think club recommendations are almost as important as record recommendations, and deserve their place on ILM.

And more threads about indie. Seriously - I don't think that there are many *positive* threads about great new guitar records, and I'm sure they DO exist, but because most of my music-buying is now filtered through ILM and a handful of other message boards, I rarely get to hear about them.

Blues, 50's rock, and jazz get very little mention on this list. Experimental music discussion would be nice too, I would have liked more answers for my Joseph Byrd thread.

I don't think it is because of some kind of list censorship, it just boils down to a lack of specialist music fans on this particular list.

Which makes it somewhat futile to discuss. (I don't mean this as a criticism of anyone listing what they would like to see covered here.) If there aren't interested participants than there's not all that much to be done about it.

with all the focus on pop, I'm surprised there is very little real discussion of girl group music here.

''Experimental music discussion would be nice too, I would have liked more answers for my Joseph Byrd thread.''

i do want to do more of those but it only gets five or six replies and besides i have enough fun with other ppl's threads really.

''And more threads about indie.''

no, becuz you don't want to see the 'darker' side of the nice people around here now do you?

What, apart from the way that Tom or I will randomly namedrop the Shangri Las or Ronettes respectively into any thread, regardless of subject?

It's not really real discussion though, I mean I was about to start a thread just now about the Shangri-La's but I realised all I could do was gibber in awe.

Why don't we get Martin to do an FAQ about girl groups?
