lots of goodies there. i was a Shut Up And Dance disciple but never loved that Ade record, but i think it sounds way better now than then. That bassline steal!!

The Blapps Posse has been a big revive for me in recent times (was huge for me when it came out) and if you dig it i heartily recommend getting the earlier 1990 version.

i love both those Cosmo & Dibs 12"s, especially Oh So Nice and Star Eyes which is hysterical - Look at their eyes; it's ecstasy!

Funky Green Dogs is all time and perhaps the best ever sampling of ESG's Moody.

Lennie De Ice - We Are IE is all time too!

I used to love that Liquid Oxygen but haven't listened in at least 20 years so not sure how it has aged. Same with Rhythmatic, Mind Of Kane and Tek-9. Must revisit.

i dug ou all my D-Zone records a while back and they hadn't aged so well.

Urban Shakedown featuring Micky Finn was very over-rinsed at the time and i've never fully got back on board but it is classico! As was DJ Seduction. Here it comes...!

good haul!!

this one bringing me much joy right now...

Xray Xperiments Vol.2 - Take No Chance

NickB, Sunday, 6 August 2023 17:54 (one year ago) link

i have vol 1 of that. this sounds better.

i voted Blapps Posse but on another day would have voted Funky Green Dogs.

stirmonster, Sunday, 6 August 2023 17:55 (one year ago) link

i dug ou all my D-Zone records a while back and they hadn't aged so well.

yeah, that was the one thing out of the whole lot that went straight into the 'get rid' pile

NickB, Sunday, 6 August 2023 17:55 (one year ago) link

i was too lazy to type it but that Funky Green Dogs has also got Inteceptor - Together in the b-side, so nice!

NickB, Sunday, 6 August 2023 17:57 (one year ago) link

this was new to me but i love it like my own lungs:

Matey - The Day The Earth Stood Still

NickB, Sunday, 6 August 2023 18:01 (one year ago) link

and in that case should also have Liberty City - Some Lovin' on it too which is another 10/10 Murk tune.

x post

stirmonster, Sunday, 6 August 2023 18:02 (one year ago) link

indeed!

NickB, Sunday, 6 August 2023 18:03 (one year ago) link

i've never heard that Matey before. i lived and breathed this music at the time; i was beyond obsessive about tracking stuff down and trying to keep up but never cease to be amazed at the vast amount that just sailed right by me.

stirmonster, Sunday, 6 August 2023 18:06 (one year ago) link

Murk records are so much fun, singing along to them on dancefloors always brings me joy.

I love the vocal on Love Revolution's "Give It To Me BABYYYYYYYY" but I think I'm going to have to give my vote to Rachel Wallace "Tell Me Why"

boxedjoy, Sunday, 6 August 2023 18:10 (one year ago) link

Shades Of Rhythm - The Sound Of Eden/Armageddon (ZTT) and WE are IE are 5 star classics

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Sunday, 6 August 2023 18:16 (one year ago) link

totally! been whacking the pitch right up on We Are IE though, that drum break sounds so slow on that now

NickB, Sunday, 6 August 2023 18:46 (one year ago) link

it must be >135bpm. lol'ing at that being regarded as so slow now.

stirmonster, Sunday, 6 August 2023 18:57 (one year ago) link

Well in the context of jungle, that's almost funereal

NickB, Sunday, 6 August 2023 19:03 (one year ago) link

in that context indeed and you'd want a plus 16 turntable.

stirmonster, Sunday, 6 August 2023 19:07 (one year ago) link

I love my reloops!

NickB, Sunday, 6 August 2023 19:10 (one year ago) link

this one had been in my wantlist for absolutely ages, another top notch komix production. doesn't really fit with a lot of the other records as it's a bit of a moody deep house number but boy I'm glad it was there...

Index - Give Me A Sign

NickB, Sunday, 6 August 2023 19:24 (one year ago) link

this is a great contrast between the moody vocals and 100mph piano house with a nice squirt of squiggly synths and warped samples over the top of it all. so much energy!

Out Of Orda - Overdose

NickB, Sunday, 6 August 2023 19:59 (one year ago) link

oops wrong track...

Out Of Orda - Tekin Callie

NickB, Sunday, 6 August 2023 20:02 (one year ago) link

this one is kinda chug-along acidy eurohouse from the same guy who did the gat decor record, but i think i prefer this one way more:

Life - Feel So Good (Club Mix)

NickB, Sunday, 6 August 2023 20:35 (one year ago) link

utterly ridiculous in the best possible way...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oq8Bh_CI3zg
Macca Brown - Dubplate Style (mix 2)

NickB, Sunday, 6 August 2023 21:10 (one year ago) link

this is positively wagnerian in its epic bombast, music to obliterate on a vast scale, absolutely maniacal:

Rhythm Section - Dreamworld

NickB, Sunday, 6 August 2023 21:40 (one year ago) link

I love those subbase Rachel Wallace anthems <3

brimstead, Sunday, 6 August 2023 21:46 (one year ago) link

longtime personal favourite, orbitalesque end-of-night tune, manchester business:

Bowa - Different Story

NickB, Sunday, 6 August 2023 21:52 (one year ago) link

I love those subbase Rachel Wallace anthems

Rachel Wallace is on at least three of these records (she sings on that Rhythm Section EP too). I looked her up to see what she was doing now - married to the guy from the Stereo MCs and currently performing with them

Things took a dark turn for her in the mid 90s though...

II Exodus - Silence Too Exodus

Bernard Quidbins (NickB), Tuesday, 12 November 2024 21:00 (three months ago) link

playing it through for the second time and am literally just sat here gasping

Bernard Quidbins (NickB), Tuesday, 12 November 2024 21:01 (three months ago) link

very mixed pile i picked up btw, quite a bit of rote dnb but other good things in it were...

Mondo Scuro - Algorithm
Last Of The Free - The Search
Glamour Gold - The Only One
Sonic Evolution - Electron
Fifth Level - U Rock The House
Friends Of Matthew - The Calling
Reel Houze - No Difference
Z-Formation - The Brutal EP
v/a - Shifting Mercury

Bernard Quidbins (NickB), Tuesday, 12 November 2024 21:13 (three months ago) link

Late vote for Different Story. Not a rave banger by any means but an all time favourite of mine.

groovypanda, Tuesday, 12 November 2024 21:20 (three months ago) link

yeah that one's definitely wormed it's way deep into my ventricles

Bernard Quidbins (NickB), Tuesday, 12 November 2024 21:24 (three months ago) link

the II Exodus rules. I also have a white label of The Dark Spirits. i can't remember if it's the same version but it's so great.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSoYDet70XY

of the others I have Sonic Evolution but can't recall how it sounds, Friends Of Matthew which I can't recall either, except that it sampled Sparks, right? Their "Out There" was BIG.

Here's my fave Sparks sampling rave tune.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smq8QAxzsHw

Oh, and Z Formation. i used to cane that. "Frenzy" is a great LFO clone. "Oh" was a big one too. Maybe "Hollow Cloud" too? will need to re-visit.

stirmonster, Tuesday, 12 November 2024 23:17 (three months ago) link

Yeah Friends of Matthew samples Sparks but also the vocal from the Carpenters 'Calling Occupants...'. That Smith & Mighty is glorious though, got a few of theirs but i didn't know that one
