Whether it be Big Star ('September Gurls'), Sly & the Family Stone ('Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin') or Slade (multiple examples), illiteracy in song titles seemed to be an epidemic in this era.
But...why? I find it a little hard to believe these disparate acts were fans of each other, tho they *may* have been, and harder to believe they were fans of Molesworth!
So why did it happen? Yr THORTS please!

Also, it was only today I realise it's spelled "Gurls" in that Big Star song
Read that Sly & Stone "Thank You (Falettinme..." as "fellating me"

Prince was a bit later I think? Also, his titles were mainly playing a slightly different trick: replacing words with single letters or numbers e.g. 2U or 4U instead of 'to you' and 'for you'. Tho he may have done the misspelling as well.

The compilation is from 1977, but it was a feature of SAHB's act that Harvey would spray paint 'Vambo Rools' on a wall at the back of the set during the song "Vambo". So (gang) graffiti was the source for that particular misspelling.

So, yes, it's kind of street, yob culture. I'm sure that's why Slade did it.

I always assumed the MIZSPELT WURDS were some kind of lexical representation of the artifice of glam.
