“Announcing Antigone, Eiko Ishibashi’s latest musical masterwork, out March 28th 2025. Rife with chilling speculations for the future calling from inside her own head, Antigone marks Eiko’s first “traditional” songcraft album — that is, with lyrics and singing — since 2018’s acclaimed The Dream My Bones Dream, arriving on the heels of her celebrated, expansive soundtracks for Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s films.

With these transformative encounters in hand, Eiko and her band brings a wide array of sounds and moods, shading pop, funk and jazz, ambient, electronic and musique concrète in a bittersweet latticework.

Listen to the first single, "Coma" and pre-order Antigone today!”

I love the Drive My Car score but haven't really explored her work otherwise.

it's funny that bones, deservedly, seemed to prime her to breakout at which point her music became more insular and experimental and at the same time the soundtrack work made her more well known than ever. v excited for this.

Someone posted a recent show on d!me by Kafka's Ibiki, the trio she has with Jim O'Rourke and Tatsuhisa Yamamoto. I've only listened to the first of two 45 minute pieces so far and it's great.

She's playing a tiny (40p?) venue in Tokyo soon and I'm very upset I'm going to miss it.

She played a 200p capacity venue in SF for comparison.

saw her do a live score for the alternate the gift cut before catching the other ver and it was extremely cool. hamaguchi talks about it a bit here:

hoping this gets some kind of home release…

enjoyed GIFT, especially her performance. though found it profoundly disappointing they had included subtitles and explanatory text in that version of the film.
