Idk if I ever see the Gibbs discussed here? Anyway this is a period that interests me as much as any other. I know there was once a general poll on all their records but the heritage years are usually glossed over by default.

Poll Results

OptionVotes
High Civilization (1991) 1
Size Isn't Everything (1993) 1
E-S-P (1987) 0
One (1989) 0
Still Waters (1997) 0
This Is Where I Came In (2001) 0

High Civilization or Size Isn't Everything for me. The former is usually put down for being this arid pretentious Prince-swingbeat-AOR mess but I love any and all Gibb attempts at overt modernity, and those two (and E-S-P) have the highest quota of dance songs.

I hope there's some interesting discussion here, but there's not a single song I've heard on a couple of compilations (or on the radio) that's prompted me to listen further to anything later than 1979. At a pinch I'd pick "This Is Where I Came In" as best song.

Stops at 1981 though.

I actually love "One," partly because of the slight tension between the bass guitar, clippety-cloppety beat, and the vehement wussiness of those vocals and harmonies.

There’s good stuff on all of them but Size Isn’t Everything is the one for me - it’s fun, somewhat adventurous and the big hit is lovely in that Pebble Mill middle England way.
I have to mention the title track of Still Waters because I think Robin delivers arguably his best ever vocal performance on any Bee Gees record on it - and it lasts only a few seconds. It’s a two-line middle eight before Barry takes the mic again. Oh Robin.
