(I'm sorry. I know this is the ILM equivalent of an ILE "Help Me Sort Out My Love Life" thread, but my old Wanted List is all used up and I need new input.)

- the first four minutes of Pink Floyd : Shine On You Crazy
Diamond, Pt. 1-5

If you're looking for an explicit ripoff, Eloy's _Silent Cries
And Mighty Echoes_, among others. The music is decent (if
derivative), but the vocals drag it down (the lead singer
sings laughable English lyrics in a heavy german accent).

For more original music with a similar sound, search
Porcupine Tree (especially their early stuff), Camel,
Djam Karet and later Marillion.

the slightly prog edge to it also makes me think of this soft machine tune too for some reason:

Thanks all - you can believe I'm already on the Soft Space train, one of my all-time favourites. I just saw the Yellow Magic Orchestra pop up and not that familiar with them - is there anything particularly along these kind of slightly-proggy lines?

(Skip to halfway for the synth figure that makes at a little more than dark ambient)
