The Most Happening Place In The World

Japan, because it always is. Norway/Sweden, because of Geir. Atlanta, no idea why. Nothing else I like these days fits into any geographical scene.

Germany and Japan for me, by a long shot. Germany for artists revolving around the A-Musik, Sonig, ~scape and Mille Plateaux labels. All that crackly technodub and warm machine pop is doing good things for me. With the history they have going there (Kraftwerk, Neu, Ash Ra Tempel) it's not hard to see why it's still going strong.

Japan for the Boredoms axis (definitely my favorite band in the world now, love many of the side projects, too), Ruins, Susumu Yakoto, Takako Minekawa and Cornelius, as well as German-influenced electronic stuff like Neina and Nobakazu Takemura. Naturally, it's stupid to call either of these huge countries a "scene," and I know I'm just barely scratching the surface, but I like what I hear.

Depends on what kind of music you happen to like... I'd say Chicago (because of its post-rock scene, everything remotely related to that genre seems to revolve around a quite populare "drummer" who is domiciled there...). Germany if you like IDM (=Intelligent Dance Music altough Intelligent People know that the term doesn't mean a thing)

The most happening place in the world? It's in every garage where old Oriental Rugs hang to deaden the echo as a youth with a sixty-dollar used guitar with a twenty-dollar amp with a broken tube jams out the chords to "Louie Louie," his drummer friend and bassist cousin nod their heads approvingly.

It's in every seedy bar where, five-years later those same three boys have become men, still dreaming of rock stardom, their set still composed mostly of covers, but damn if they're not the best covers act in Town

And it's at their High School Reunion, where the men meet after twenty ears and strap on a guitar, and sit behind the kit and play "Louie Louie," smiling, and with their friends and peers and their new wives and husbands cheering and smiling with them.

THAT is the most happening place in the world.

I think I'm gonna fuckin' cry, man.

I go with Mark on this one, it's pretty much Tokyo and Berlin, same as it ever was. Maybe with some touches here and there from Vienna. Although I've heard that Milton Keynes is pretty good for Two Step, yes?

Seriously though, I think what keeps UK Garage at the top of my musical priorities is the sheer volume of excellent tracks to the point that I can't keep track of them all, and quite obviously they're all coming out of the UK.

I agree that it depends on what you are looking for. Japan is crazy. They do whatever the hell the want and make it work. There is a crazy band from Japan "The King Brothers". Out of control punk music.

Detroit is also producing some good sounds. San Diego as well.
