well, perhaps this is a bit subtle, but I find it truly, sublimely insane.

'Let's Invite Them Over' by George Jones and Melba Montgomery.

*****

Id really like songs that chronicle psychosis... I wasnt too clear on that.. or chilling murder ballads are always good as well... but EC's 'Psycho' is what I would consider the benchmark here

I suppose we could come up with lots more murder songs. But how about Little Jimmy Dickens's "Take an Old Cold Tater (And Wait)?" .

don't remember who recorded it first, but "It's Nothin' To Me" is pretty looney, no matter what version you hear.

I think there's a good comp called God Less America that pretty much features exactly what yr looking for, if yr going obscuro

"Me & Little Andy" by Dolly Parton or "Jeanie's Afraid of the Dark" by Porter Wagoner & Dolly Parton are both fairly creepy, along with most Louvin Brothers songs.

Um..."Crazy"?

Marcel Post (Marcel Post), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 05:16 (twenty years ago) link

Johnny Paycheck also has a song called "Colorado Kool-Aid" where he cuts a guy's ear off, Reservoir Dogs-style. Then he asks him a question and pretends like the guy can't hear him.

Beasts of Bourbon's cover of "Psycho" was perhaps insaner than Costellos.

Let's not forget "Delia's Gone" by Johnny Cash.
