Great hardcore split records you have known

Seems like the days of a great split 7" or LP are long gone. Remember the Karp / Rye Coalition split LP? Shit, that sure was great. And I wrote a (deservedly) scathing review of Rye Coalition a few years back (they really began to suck), but man, that record still rules.

Remember the Spitboy / Los Crudos split? I never liked Spitboy but it seemed like they saved their 'A' material for that LP. This is to say nothing of the insanely great Los Crudos, who really outdid themselves on that record.

How about some others?

How about the Reversal of Man / Combatwoundedveteran split? Even better how about the misspress that I own that made a Reversal of Man / Los Crudos split unexpectedly. Pretty awesome.

Scrotum Grinder / Combatwoundedveteran!
Festival of Dead Deer / Crimson Curse SQUARE GREY 7 inch!

Soooooooooooooooooooo OTM about Rye/Karp!

Also, the BORN AGAINST / UNIVERSAL ORDER OF ARMAGEDDON fucking 7 inch, that shit rules. Tonie Joy is my maaaaaaaaan!

yes! all the born against splits were great - even the one with Screeching Weasel. They were my favorite band till I discovered Royal Trux

what about Coleman / Three Studies for a Crucifixion? Not sure if I'd still like it but back then I loved that record. Portraits of Past / Bleed too!

You may have Tonie Joy as your man if you wish. But keep a close eye on yer stuff.

I've heard your troubles Colin! I really dig his music mostly.

I saw Rye Coalition live, and they were fucking TERRIBLE. They kept CLAPPING THEIR HANDS TO BRING BACK THE RAWK and saying WHO HERE LIKES GRAND FUNK RAILROAD!!! (Because we're in Detroit! And rock! And stuff!)

Douche bags.

The Faith/Void e.p. shits all over all other choices.

...followed only by the Code Of Honor/Sick Pleasure split ep.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 1 May 2004 21:01 (twenty years ago) link

Alex in NYC, you may like Killing Joke way too much, but F/V is amazing. Do you have F/V/F yet? Void rulllllllllles.

Davidallen: Rye has been getting worse since 1998. They used to be good hardcore; now they're a bad AC/DC tribute.

Fear of Reprisal/The McVeighs split 7"!

And ESPECIALLY the Raoooul/Skinned Teen split LP. Pure genius.

Douglas (Douglas), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 06:59 (twenty years ago) link

one year passes...
The Born Against/U.O.A 7", Rupture/Drop Dead 8" and Crossed Out/M.I.T.B 7" are my favorite releases mentioned in the thread thus far.

The Void side of their split LP with Faith rocks but Faith never really did it for me.

Other favorites not mentioned yet :

Infest/P.H.C-split flexi.8".

Rorschach/Neanderthal-split.flexi.

Indian Summer/Current-split.7".

Rupture/Slavestate-split.7".

Slavestate/Lack Of Interest-split.7".

Spazz/Lack Of Interest-split.7".

Spazz/Brutal Truth-split.7".

13/EyeHateGod-split.7".

And the Cavity split where they did 'damaged 3' with a band i can't remember the name of.

Not sure it exactly counts as hardcore, but surely the Bikini Kill/Huggy Bear split.LP deserves a mention..?

Ellis From Die Hard, Saturday, 11 June 2005 18:27 (nineteen years ago) link

I've never heard of a single one of these bands.

Crossed Out / Man is the Bastard

i was gonna post that but it's already here!

and i saw Eyehategod last week, it was cool but it took Jimmy Bower 15 min. to get his guitar connected to his amp, he was fucked up on something!

Teen Cthulhu/Iron Lung split

donut e-goon (donut), Sunday, 12 June 2005 04:43 (nineteen years ago) link

rye / karp - as a card-carrying new jerseyan, i can say that rye of recent musically jumped the shark on the lipstick game -- everything else has been a quick decline. i cant help but feel bad for those guys, with all the label craziness thats happened.

rye of yesteryear... man. they were amazing. a fucking force to be reckoned with. one of my all time favorite shows was when i saw them play with the vss in 97. i think those guys were in slam dunk, whom i vaguely recall seeing as a teenager.

and i second that all of born against splits were awesome. which reminds me, i saw j0n h1Ltz tonight, working sound for the lcd soundsystem show.

while not necessarily hardcore, i do enjoy the pitchblende / eggs 7".

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Sunday, 12 June 2005 05:04 (nineteen years ago) link

Teen Cthulhu/Iron Lung is one of the best 7"s I've ever owned.

bface, Sunday, 12 June 2005 09:03 (nineteen years ago) link

More metal than hardcore but...

Converge/Agoraphobic Nosebleed
Coalesce/Napalm Death

Texas joints:

Dicks/Big Boys Live at Raul's
Gut/Johnboy (the former being the finest recorded moment of early nineties TX prog-punk)
just about every American Psycho Band seven inch was a split, except the Sub Pop one.
