Ludacris-"Freaky thangs"
Pink-"Get the party strated
Lil' Kim-"How many licks?"
Destinys Child-"Emotions"
DJ Tiesto-"Flight 643"
Raze-"Break 4 love"
Wagon Christ-"Lovely"
Infusion-"Legacy"
Tortoise-"The equator"
AR Kane-"Spermwhael trip over"
New Order-"All the way"
Turbonegro-"Turbonegro hate the kids" I havent heard those Pink or Lil' Kim tracks recently as I dont have MTV. But those tunes and their videos are firmly lodged in my brane now. I dont where "Emotions" turned from soppy mush to teary-eyed bliss but it did somewhere along the way. DJ Tiesto isnt normally my cup o' tea but that tune was being played everywhere while I was in Amsterdam for New Years and it's pretty rockin'.

I should have said "I haven't heard those Pink or Lil' Kim tracks *until* recently"

I know fig all about Wagon Christ and I've heard only a few tunes but "Lovely" is cute and charming. Why does everyone hate them?

i don't think anyone hates them (and there are fans of Plug out there apparently), it is more that no one seems to particularly like any of his stuff (myself included)

Is the Pink song the one, "I'm coming up so get the party started". Ecstacy references in pop now? Our children are next. Can "coming up" followed by "so get the party started" mean anything else. Perhaps the party is in the apartment above her or something. I don't know.

Yay - it pleases me no end that someone else likes "Legacy".

I've only heard a couple of WC/Plug tracks, and found them all to be quite agreeable. That I've never been inspired to investigate further says more about Vibert's chosen genres than his proficiency within them.

Ronan: Yeah, I like the cheeky E reference too. On the video, Pink and her mate take the elevator up the party. Hence the "coming up" refernece. Yeah, right.

Tim: It was yoour description of "Legacy" that it was "post-punk meets house" that made me interested and it certainly is tasty. Certainly sounds unlike anything else recently. Some of the lyrics are odd though. "Synaesthesia coloured blue/Aquaman knows what to do".

Sadly/happily I then relistened to Chemical Brothers' "Star Guitar" and realised it did the same thing minus an actual song. And you're right the lyrics are occasionally very weak (although if it really is a period piece maybe they're supposed to be).

Mind you if I were doing a post-punk-meets-house thing it would be quite different. Maybe a cross between Herbert and Ms. Dynamite with punX0r bass.

surely post-punk house = post-disco, pre-house, no? ;)

jess, Friday, 4 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Actually yes Jess, which is why all my modern visions are like sci-fi updates of ESG.

(epic theory of why Ms Dynamite could/should be blazing punk- dance goddess requires some ironing out before it can be aired publicly).
