Kendra Smith vs. Hope Sandoval

Ms. Sandoval has never, to my knowledge, disappeared into the California wilderness with nothing but a pump organ and some Michael Moorcock novels. This is not a tough contest.

Sort of like Bon Scott vs. Brian Johnson.

Yeah, this is a bit of a no contest, really.

I mean, I like Hope and all but come on! Kendra! The Guild of Temporal Adventurers and all!

no one who has ever been in a room with hope sandoval would ever pick anyone other than her

I have been in several rooms with Hope Sandoval. Being a straight female, she does nothing for me on that level.

Hope Sandoval's voice is wonderful. A warm velvety blanket by a fireside on a cold winter's night...

kendra over hope any day.

oooooh tough.

this: Hope Sandoval's voice is wonderful. A warm velvety blanket by a fireside on a cold winter's night...

bbbbut Kendra's lyrics are so wtftastic and, yeah, that pump organ. Plus points for isolating herself in Bolivia or wherever and being a self-sufficient farmer with her trees and voices and such
Also: "Wheel of Law"

Kendra

No wiki for Kendra? This is truly a glaring oversight.

Like Masonic, I've also been in several rooms with Sandoval. I've also seen Kendra several times both with and without Dream Syndicate/Opal/etc. and Kendra wins this by several light years.

No one who has ever been in a room with 19 Kendra Smiths and 7 Hope Sandovals would ever pick anyone other than Kendra.

btw, Kendra's super-rare "Stille Im Meine Hamburg" single is definitely worth a listen. It's all church bells and soft feedback squeals over a dour piano waltz and clipclop percussion, and Kendra's singing (in German, no less) has never been more haunting. I doubt any sane person will be able to find a vinyl copy, but slsking is the next best thing.

Does anyone know if a recording of Kendra's Terrastock set is floating around somewhere? I believe hat was her last public performance, but I have no idea if it's any good.

Kendra's super-rare "Stille Im Meine Hamburg" - the one with deceased Chili Pepper Hillel Slovak's instrumental "jam" on the other side right. Wow, I haven't thought about that record in ages. I'm going to try to dig it up 2nite. It is the very sound of extreme heroin addiction.

Huh, I've never actually heard the b-side. Wasn't Slovak already quite dead by the time it was released?

There's a torrent on D1m3ad0z3n. I was at Terrastock II for it and it was flat-out amazing.

xpost: yeah, i think he was. Seems like he died in 88? The 7" came out in 89, as did Mother's Milk, which was the first RHCP lp to feature John F.
