"Arab Money (Remix)" by Busta Rhymes featuring Ron Browz, Diddy, Swizz Beatz, T-Pain, Akon and Lil Wayne

^^^DJ got suspended from radio in the UK for playing this on account of "racial sensitivity"

most laughably bad: Foolish, Can't Believe It, Speedin', Damaged, Bye Bye, Love In This Club, Lollipop

dumb pseud (some dude), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 16:37 (sixteen years ago) link

hi hater because none of the verses are flat-out terrible even swizz's

my favorite verses out of all of these are jeezy on "dey know", luda on "pop champagne", wayne on "just fine" and fab on "hi hater"

jordan s (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 17:06 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah, Luda on "Pop Champagne" is sick, I just couldn't co-sign it as a whole w/ Kim barfing all over it and all. also Kiss on "So Fly," Tip on "Superstar," and Plies on "Single Again.

dumb pseud (some dude), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 17:13 (sixteen years ago) link

man, a rapper can do pretty well for himself just going around doing remixes, huh

Manchego Bay (G00blar), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 17:21 (sixteen years ago) link

obv. R Kelly's "if i were a boy"

k3vin k., Tuesday, 2 December 2008 17:26 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah, I dunno, I've never been too clear about whether MCs get paid for remixes the same way they do for other guest verses, since they usually don't appear on albums or get officially released by a label. i mean, Wayne says he charges 100k for like every single verse, but if someone actually paid him that much for those "Single Again" and "Bye Bye" and "Gifts" remixes that disappeared after like 2 days then a ton of money was getting thrown away.

xpost

dumb pseud (some dude), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 17:30 (sixteen years ago) link

Kelly did a ton of notable remixes this year (Flashing Lights, Customer, Lookin' Boy, Touch My Body) but as far as I know none of them were officially sanctioned by the original artist/label

dumb pseud (some dude), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 17:32 (sixteen years ago) link

^which obviously makes it 100000x better

k3vin k., Tuesday, 2 December 2008 17:32 (sixteen years ago) link

doesn't really make it better or worse, I just didn't include those because I had to narrow the field somehow and that seemed like a good criteria. R. did a lot of official remixes in '07 (It's Me Bitches, Make It Rain, Shawty Is A Ten) so I don't know if artists stopped asking him or if he just stopped calling people to jump on the official remixes when he had an idea for one.

dumb pseud (some dude), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 17:43 (sixteen years ago) link

oh yeah i wasn't disagreeing with you, i think it's just one of the things i love abt R. he's just the kind of dude who would do these hilarious/unauthorized remixes

k3vin k., Tuesday, 2 December 2008 17:52 (sixteen years ago) link

i thought the lookin boy rmx was official?? it was on the radio and on a joc tape

dat dude delmar (and what), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 17:55 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah i dunno, it's hard to say if something's an official rmx when it's just one artist adding new vocals but otherwise it's the same as the original.

dumb pseud (some dude), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 18:09 (sixteen years ago) link

Luda on "Like You'll Never See Me Again(Remix)" make my heart flutter

danzig, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 22:28 (sixteen years ago) link

damn, I can't believe how few of these I've heard. Anyway, Busta w/ Kane, Wayne, Nas, etc d(-_-)b

people like the "Bust Your Windows" rmx? fuckin' dream groupies.

the chef (corey woods ha ha) (some dude), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 05:08 (sixteen years ago) link

touch your body remix is equally boring imo - dunno who voted for either

you brought me home to this funky house (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 05:36 (sixteen years ago) link

"Touch Your Body" rmx beat is incredible, I could listen to that on a loop for hours.

the chef (corey woods ha ha) (some dude), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 05:41 (sixteen years ago) link

ah i'd never heard the tricky remix - the one i heard was the normal beat + dream hitting some wood blocks or something. this beat is incredible

you brought me home to this funky house (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 05:48 (sixteen years ago) link

gorilla zoe's 'byw' remix was way better as well, for whatever little that's worth. (song is annoying. no wait, sullivan's annoying - i mightve enjoyed it in funner hands.)

anyways, that top 2 is my top 2. i wrestled for a while with wanting to give the strongest possible daps to the swizz blendz ('teen love affair' the equal of 'just fine' imo, especially if you're insisting on the version with weezy and precise) but the 'touch my body' remix is a serious masterpiece and can only be the serious winner; nothing else even attempted what it managed to achieve (unless some maniac seriously wants to bat for 'love in the club 2' and 'she got her own').

r|t|c, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 06:06 (sixteen years ago) link

the existence of "she got her own" is bizarre

you brought me home to this funky house (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 06:09 (sixteen years ago) link

oh hold up though, i also meant that re 'touch my body' in terms of the transformative effect it has on the song - if you in here all "great production WISH HE'D GIVEN IT TO SOME RAPPPERZZZ" then do plz stfu

r|t|c, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 06:16 (sixteen years ago) link

here's the only other 6 i vaguely care about:

"Single Again (Remix)" by Trina featuring Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and Plies
- cos i watch soaps

"Ride (Remix)" by Ace Hood featuring T-Pain, Rick Ross and Juelz Santana
- cos anything that is a kick to trey songz' nuts is ok by me

"Donk (Remix)" by Soulja Boy featuring Yung Joc
- cos swizz x ray cash beat is ridic

"Gifts (Remix)" by Ray J featuring Lil Wayne and Game
- cos teh rappers are as boring as you expect but the extra woozied beat just makes em seem like extra big chunks in its foreign-alphabet soup

"Get Silly (Remix)" by V.I.C. featuring Soulja Boy, Bun B, E-40, Pitbull, Polow Da Don, JD, Arab, DJ Unk, Big
- cos GUESS WHICH VERSE DIDNT MAKE IT TO THE ALBUM VERSION GUYZ!!!!!

"Summertime (Remix)" by New Kids On The Block featuring Jadakiss
- cos it exists, ha ha

r|t|c, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 06:26 (sixteen years ago) link

- cos GUESS WHICH VERSE DIDNT MAKE IT TO THE ALBUM VERSION GUYZ!!!!!

yeah i was sad about this

you brought me home to this funky house (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 06:31 (sixteen years ago) link

out of all the overstuffed remixes "get silly" was far and away the best but that might just be the beat

you brought me home to this funky house (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 06:34 (sixteen years ago) link

in the despicable absence of bust it baby pt2 i also retrospectively nominate plies perfectly-judged turn on lloyd 'year of the lover'

r|t|c, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 06:46 (sixteen years ago) link

are you saying "bust it baby pt 2" is a remix of the original "bust it baby"

you brought me home to this funky house (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 06:50 (sixteen years ago) link

yes?

r|t|c, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 06:55 (sixteen years ago) link

it's more of an independent single than a remix in this matter though who cares really

you brought me home to this funky house (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 06:57 (sixteen years ago) link

yes sarge maybe it is really more the second of the bust it troika

in any case pt3 w/ janet qualifies though it is wack

r|t|c, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 07:03 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah, Luda on "Pop Champagne" is sick, I just couldn't co-sign it as a whole w/ Kim barfing all over it and all.

i like kim's 'pop champagne' verse!!

lex pretend, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 09:35 (sixteen years ago) link

I'll rep for "She Got Her Own".. shit is a jam

A REAL GOON (The Reverend), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 09:49 (sixteen years ago) link

possibly the association with 'ms indie' makes that tune more of a drag than it otherwise would be by itself; at the same time its high profile owes everything to that association, so maybe i'm basically just not that into it. this was a worthwhile post.

r|t|c, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 14:13 (sixteen years ago) link

Eh, I'm not hugely huge on the original.

A REAL GOON (The Reverend), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 14:17 (sixteen years ago) link

i was never really clear on whether Janet's "Bust It Baby" was official or just something she did independently, and again i was using that criteria to narrow the field. also, Janet, ew.

the chef (corey woods ha ha) (some dude), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 14:21 (sixteen years ago) link

another missing one that scores very highly with me is the dream mix of shontelle's 't-shirt', which brilliantly solves the frustrating original's lacking irreplaceablisms by taking a leaf out of 'no air's book and turning it into a keening duet; dream's christmassy carolling gives it a sorta tired/happy gently converging coming home for the j.holidays vibe like wot 'bed' did last year. it's really great, heartwarming.

r|t|c, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 14:55 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah, it was not very shontelligent of me to leave that song out of the poll.

the chef (corey woods ha ha) (some dude), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 14:57 (sixteen years ago) link

heh.

tbh though, the most amazing remixes i bumped all year besides the top 3 & shontelle are the 'soulja girl' collipark mix and the dogg pound mix of 'sensual seduction', neither of which technically qualify on grounds of release & relevance respectively - i'm happy to abide by the rules of the game though cos i happen to not be the sort of abject disgrace to my supposed profession that invents fake reasons to put dream's 'love/hate' in my 2008 late-pass best-of. FOR INSTANCE.

r|t|c, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 15:34 (sixteen years ago) link

lol

but yeah the field of officialticial remixes was kind of weak this year, and "Soulja Girl" is def one of the best of '07 or '08 or whatever.

snoop g-mix is a bitch to find now so i'm throwing it up - yall will probly hate at first but wait til the rapps and it will win you over with its gliding realness.

r|t|c, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 16:09 (sixteen years ago) link

in honor of six straight posts from some dude/rtc, im now going to post the "hi hater" remix video

you brought me home to this funky house (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 16:16 (sixteen years ago) link

that's a dope track but honestly any rmx that purposefully references Flava In Ya Ear loses points because shit's just done to death.

the ref (denis leary ha ha) (some dude), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 16:18 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah -- basically i liked it cuz they pulled in a bunch of random guys and yet the obvious ones- jada, fabolous- probably have the best verses

you brought me home to this funky house (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 16:22 (sixteen years ago) link

well plies verse might be the best actually

you brought me home to this funky house (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 16:22 (sixteen years ago) link

meh sorry but if it ain't like i dunno keith murray, g-dep and tracey lee on that beat i don't want to know.

here is the overrated -> underrated remix of the year

"Dey Know (Remix)" by Shawty Lo featuring Ludacris, Young Jeezy, Plies and Lil Wayne

you brought me home to this funky house (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 16:29 (sixteen years ago) link

especially if it's the mega 9 min remix w/ the e-40 and gorilla zoe verses

you brought me home to this funky house (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 16:30 (sixteen years ago) link

ok maybe not 9 minutes - more like 6

also notable for giving us the first indication that jeezy was gonna kill it this year

I'm in my cool whip insides jello
Hop up out that pretty muthafucka like hello(hello)hello
Ladies how you doin
Dat nigga crazy girl don't say nothin 2 em(haha)
Dey know dey know got white low low
Rob who? Take What? (gun cocks) hello
They know I give a fuck about them haterz(nope)
Young jizzle been gettin paper(yeeeaaaahhh)
Granite? wheels on da coup like savors
Hit da club with 20 brawdz like flavor
I'm on da top floor(floor) no neighbors
Who u kiddin I get my 87's tailored

you brought me home to this funky house (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 16:31 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah i was honestly borderline about including that only because i think it dropped late '07, but on a level playing field it'd be pretty dominant. definitely my favorite AutoTune Wayne song.

the ref (denis leary ha ha) (some dude), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 16:33 (sixteen years ago) link

that shontelle rmx is really great
