Crowded with fantastic songs. OK, so I don't like "Skin Feeling", and not too keen on "Locked Out" or the title track either. But most of the rest are really great. This album is in fact almost as good as "Woodface", but way more underrated.

Torn between "Nails In My Feet", "Fingers Of Love", "Pineapple Head" and "Private Universe". I think I will go for the latter.

I dislike Youth's production.

Now I usually love Mitchell Froom's production style, and I am sure he would have done an excellent job on this one too. But I think Youth did excellently too.

fifteen years pass...

Finally heard this album in full after meaning to for at least a decade. Actually reminds me a bit of Squeeze's stuff from around this time.

"Private Universe" is really fantastic.

It's a beautiful song. The album itself is something of an anomaly, sonically. Everything Finn and the band have done other than this have been slick, even in their hi-fi/lo-fi Froom/Blake weirdness. But Youth gives this one a muddy, murky vibe that brings out something else in the band.

The version from the 7 Worlds Collide live album/line-up is great:

WTF, only 3 voters in this poll? No votes for "Locked Out"?? I expected more from 2009 ILM.

This album is in fact almost as good as "Woodface", but way more underrated.

Is this true? Having only recently gone on a crowded house deep dive, this was my favorite album of the original run. I'm kinda surprised it wasn't rated at the time. The only place where it wavers at all is the last song.

This thread's hard to find.

I literally walked through a snow storm at night to buy this CD as an import, because it came out overseas first. They were pretty good on the tour. Paul was still in the band. Sheryl Crow was opening (with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other!); her drummer would replace Hester when he quit.

I only listened this in full recently myself. I kinda forget that it has almost as many perennial low key radio hits* as Woodface does, and the deep cuts are mostly interesting enough.

*er, they may not be hip enough NOR easy-listening enough to appear on (m)any commercial radio playlists here now, come to think of it. But the various regional ABC stations feel like they're always, at most, 24 hours away from inserting one of maybe 15 Crowded House songs in between interviews with parliamentarians etc, lol.
