I was hoping this would be about said album. (Actually I should have known, since you started the thread.)

"Hello Teenage America" gets stuck in my head quite a lot. But so does everything else.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 1 October 2009 14:52 (fifteen years ago) link

"Dogstar Man/Helter Skelter" has a really unfair advantage here since it's two awesome songs stuck together (and the reinterpolation of the "Radio Babylon" beat in "Helter Skelter" is one of music's greatest moments) but basically everything here except for the interlude "99%" will get stuck in my head at least once a month.

although my first instinct was hello teenage america tbh

Don Quishote (jjjusten), Thursday, 15 October 2009 23:29 (fifteen years ago) link

thx to this thread and the fact that i don't have the album at work, i did a last.fm meat beat manifesto station and am now listening to their recommended severed heads - greater reward. not helping the decision, but pretty awesome nonetheless.

Don Quishote (jjjusten), Thursday, 15 October 2009 23:35 (fifteen years ago) link

love love love this record...and the next one is underrated, there's some sweet New Wavish stuff on Satyricon. Both of these were super big for me in high school.

dan selzer, Friday, 16 October 2009 01:01 (fifteen years ago) link

the sounds he got on this album were VERY fucking cool.

"the sounds he got on this album were VERY fucking cool."

yup, and for me, hearing it after STS, and even the single that preceded it, it was still mind blowing. the breaks, the samples, the songwriting, the sonics ... it all just fit together.

t (tricky), Friday, 16 October 2009 02:22 (fifteen years ago) link

u r all my high school MBM blood brothers app. yeah, this album was huge for me.

listening to it right now for the first time in a long time, and doing it on headphones - holy shit theres some really cool spatial tricky stuff going on here for a 1990 album!

this is going to lead to me rolling through the night listening to meat beat stuff, i can just feel it (altho there is now a draw to go dig out "biting my nails" by renegade soundwave).

RETARTED (HI DERE), Friday, 16 October 2009 02:43 (fifteen years ago) link

ok its down to "hello teenage america" "dogstar man/helter skelter" "hallucination generation" and "deviate"

this is hard.

the funny thing is that listening to this again is becoming a springboard to listening to all this other stuff i never think about anymore, so if my last.fm says that im listening to consolidated "the myth of rock" at 3 am it is dans fault

xpost yeah see like that

Don Quishote (jjjusten), Friday, 16 October 2009 02:46 (fifteen years ago) link

hahaha The Myth of Rock was in the car CD player for about 4 months earlier this year

what is this? (this is a collective) RIGHT

RETARTED (HI DERE), Friday, 16 October 2009 02:49 (fifteen years ago) link

how can such a great album lead to such a horrifying decline (consolidated, not MBM)?

Don Quishote (jjjusten), Friday, 16 October 2009 02:53 (fifteen years ago) link

I think it was because at some point they got so wrapped up in their politics that they forgot to make music...?

RETARTED (HI DERE), Friday, 16 October 2009 02:55 (fifteen years ago) link

haha so i looked to see if there was a consolidated thread in the archives and lo and behold: The first Consolidated album...

Don Quishote (jjjusten), Friday, 16 October 2009 02:56 (fifteen years ago) link

lol, are you really surprised though

guh. Consolidated was and still is irritating- and I'm being nice.

dice in my pockets (csa), Saturday, 17 October 2009 01:26 (fifteen years ago) link

I used to love the "beats", many of which were MBM quality, and/or actually just from Jack, but even when in high school knew the rapping was didactic and annoying, though "College Radio" used to crack me up.

Don't forget the third group in this little trio:

pretty sure I don't have any ;_;

I actually am completely terrible at documenting my life, I am pretty certain there are only like 30 pictures total of me in my greater family's possession of me between the ages of 18 and 30

ALLAH! *rolls on floor* (HI DERE), Thursday, 25 March 2010 18:34 (fourteen years ago) link

I only vaguely remember that argument but I believe that it involved me attempting to convince him it was a vegetarian manifesto because (swear to god) the masturbation connotation didn't actually dawn on me until he objected to it

I remember a roommate in college playing 'Storm the Studio' and me continually asking 'my god what is this, this is completely and utterly amazing' and being so disappointed each time he told me the name of the band. same thing happened a few years later when he sprang that first album by Freaky Chakra on me, I remember just not looking forward to having to ask for that by name

xpost when they did lower key local shows they'd use the name 'Veggie Beat Manifesto' har har

just put this on the ipod this morning. Listening to lots of Joy Division and realizing in high school there was no way I recognized the sample because the Joy Division track was so obscure.

I love MBM - basically spent the ages of 17/18 listening to lots of NIN, MBM and P.E. ; The first 5 tracks on 99% are all still amazing.

Satyricon is equally great, and actaully a more complete ablum (imo);

Armed Audio Warfare is like an industrial Steinksi

the last one I heard by MBM was the Subliminal Sandwich LP and Acid Again 12" which were a bit "meh" after awhile.

Should I get Storm The Studio?

De que estas hablando? (Tannenbaum Schmidt), Thursday, 25 March 2010 23:12 (fourteen years ago) link

YES YOU SHOULD (IMO it's better than Armed Audio Warfare)
