w/e i haven't actually heard vampire weekend, i just think it's funny that bee ok makes lots of polls about pitchfork bands!

butt sound insanity (gbx), Wednesday, 7 October 2009 01:15 (fifteen years ago) link

They're . . . okay. Really don't get the passionate support for this band, but whatevs.

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 7 October 2009 01:16 (fifteen years ago) link

the definition of a slow-burner for me, as i didn't really care for a while and somehow it's become one of my most listened to albums of the last 6 months. don't know how i'm going to vote though.

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Wednesday, 7 October 2009 01:17 (fifteen years ago) link

i make poll usually for bands i like, has nothing to do with pitchfork. right now i'm doing polls from 2000 releases so...

i was also surprised that this album hasn't been done as of yet and wanted to get it done with before the new album leaks.

oxford comma, i guess. but yeah j0rdan otm, "this has not been done yet" = not a good enough reason to start a poll.

samosa gibreel, Wednesday, 7 October 2009 01:26 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't want to discourage Bee OK's polls. I generally dislike polls, but I like many of his single-album polls for the best song.

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 7 October 2009 01:29 (fifteen years ago) link

(Don't start "Worst Song" polls, tho, plz. Thx in advance.)

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 7 October 2009 01:30 (fifteen years ago) link

that would be easy--all of them

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 7 October 2009 01:30 (fifteen years ago) link

haha, i will never do a "Worst Song" poll because i think they are stupid...

Oxford Comma... I remember being woken up by it one morning and knowing it was classic right away. I haven't realy checked out the rest of the album properly yet, although I know most people like A-Punk best.

dang this vampire weekend article in the new yorker is like the most insubstantial thing ever. why did the magazine think they needed to publish a full-length feature article about an average band with one album who seem to be pretty uninteresting individuals? they could have just done one of their normal two-page, back-of-the-magazine music profiles instead.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 31 December 2009 16:44 (fifteen years ago) link

really? I found the article really interesting. Most of it anyway.

dan selzer, Thursday, 31 December 2009 21:36 (fifteen years ago) link

Did it mention that covers album w/ Trai'd?

kingkongvsgodzilla, Thursday, 31 December 2009 21:51 (fifteen years ago) link

what did you find interesting about it? not attacking you, just curious. i like the band fine, but i don't think a multipage discussion of the joke bands they were in in college and why they wear polo shirts is really worthy of a feature article in the NYer.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 31 December 2009 21:52 (fifteen years ago) link

The discussion about the classes they took, the kipling stuff, the stories he wrote, all the stuff about studying colonialism and how it relates to why they wear polo shirts, the obvious but appropriate point made about how nobody would discuss their "authenticity" if they sounded like the Stones, etc.

dan selzer, Friday, 1 January 2010 07:21 (fifteen years ago) link

If their publicists would just compare them to The Style Council, the band would be less misunderstood, given what they say in the article.

The Hood Won't Jump (Eazy), Saturday, 2 January 2010 01:26 (fifteen years ago) link

Shh, US bands influenced by the Style Council in secret incubating stasis til mid-2011! Start working on your hair and wardrobe now, and brush up those horn chops, stat!

I enjoyed that article as well and I really don't much like those guys.

pithfork (Hurting 2), Saturday, 2 January 2010 22:19 (fifteen years ago) link

The scene where they met the dude from Blink 182 was fairly great.

pithfork (Hurting 2), Saturday, 2 January 2010 22:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Just read this. Thought they came off great, as level-headed and thoughtful guys. The Blink 182 thing was a perfect way to end it.
