"money maker" is seriously one of the most grating things i've ever heard

red light district had some pretty horrible singles, and "act a fool" was already a super hacky joint (even tho it's pretty decent), but his single previous to "money maker" was "pimpin all over the world" which is of course a classic. "money maker" really signaled his initial descent into total hackdom culminating in "my chick bad" -- the worst single of 2010 -- imo

repostin':

If you are not the board's resident Bill Cosby sympathizer and you haven't been at largely black events where a DJ will put this on and all of the kids 10 and under get up and do the dance to the song, combined with dude doing shit like "Throw Some D's On It" and (the admittedly funny and only song of his I can stand) "Yah Trick Yah", you will probably not get the level of fundamental antipathy I have for pretty much everything Soulja Boy represents or how that's been embraced as something awesome and fun by black America.

California Gurls does convey some sense of trashy, adolescent fun, while I agree, it's not sexy. Empire State of Mind does quite the opposite of making New York sound cool to these ears, though; the abundant cliches make it sound like it was written by someone who takes shopping trips there once a year.

sorry, my post maybe did not accurately convey my opinions re: the coolness of "Empire State of Mind", which is more "hey, remember New York???" than anything. pretty transparently going through the motions, but hey, at least nobody embarrasses themselves (whereas Katy Perry on "California Girls" is the aural equivalent of fergiepeespants.jpg)
