probable candidate for shortest ilm thread ever but I feel I gotta say that if you love epic metal and are not aware of these guys they have one album that's an indisputable classic (To the Nameless Dead) and many others that kick ass and if sweeping grand majesty is yr thing at all you need to get with Primordial

also Shane MacGowan guested on a single with them and it ruled

Everyone I've played To The Nameless Dead for has become a fan. Admittedly, that's two people but it has 100% conversion rate!

Someone - maybe you, aero? - turned me onto them a few years back on Rolling Metal and I don't think I ever said thanks. So thank you, whomever it might have been.

Ok, I will listen to this.

Has anyone seen the DVD they put out this year? I think it is two live show's from their last tour in 2008.

I haven't, no

man this is the best music for the turning of the seasons, so fuckin great -- would assume that anybody who feels Agalloch & the good Katatonia stuff or Amon Amarth even would hear this and go "fuck yes, I will now bang my head"

Been on an Agalloch tip recently as it happens.

I love this band. They're perfect to listen to while running.

i remember when i first heard nameless dead i searched ilm for a thread to announce my excitement, but i didn't find one. NOW i can announce it.

Great band, but an even better one live. Averill is one of the best frontmen out there.

The new DVD's very good...though the documentary is basically Averill talking nonstop for an hour and a half.

To the Nameless Dead, drizzly afternoon, excellent.

The Agalloch comparison was pretty apt, they're rockier and less po-faced though. Maybe not quite as majestic.

five months pass...

Having a Primordial listening party for St. Paddy's day. Can't wait for the new one. I assume everyone's streamed the new track, Bloodied Yet Unbowed"? If not, it's available here:

man, just heard the new one—where have i been? super-epic, with an emotional punch i don't usually hear in metal.

I'm avoiding it until I have the d in my hand on Tuesday. All reports are trending toward awesome.

it's so fucking good

It is so fucking good! Outrageously, unfairly good. Goosebumps of greatness on first listen.

This album is amazing. And listen to that bass sound!

I'm not gonna stick around this thread and be the resident hater; I'm just gonna say that I have listened to the new album and it has not done it for me.

As I said on Twitter: I have tried to like Primordial, and I have failed. They only have one song, but unlike ZZ Top or AC/DC, their song is EIGHT MINUTES LONG.

that's not funny. (unperson), Tuesday, 26 April 2011 20:07 (thirteen years ago) link

I admit this new one needed like ten spins before it got me (contrary to the old stuff), but once I became familiar with it, it grew like hell. Samey? Certainly. Amazingly good? You bet!

I'd forgotten about this band then Gallows Hymn came up on shuffle while I was walking in the park today and totally knocked my head off. Huge tune.
