what is with your bizarre obsession with clowning tapes n tapes

played a show with these guys on the eve of their pitchfork review, it had just gone live that day, was really weird...like they were just "around" mpls, not a particularly popular band or a big deal locally....i remember talking to the drummer cuz his grandma was from my hometown, really nice dude and they were pretty suprised by the whole pitchfork thing....the very next week they were huge all of a sudden, just out of nowhere....

if i had to have picked some local mpls band that would have gotten big from then they wouldn't have been my 20th pick, shows the power p-fork had back then

i saw them the night that the cardinals beat the mets in shea to win the NLCS (i guess this was 06) and they had the game on a tv at the bar and no one was really paying attention to them in the beginning of their set even tho they were headlining -- kinda sad mostly lol

i really liked that first album tho -- competent shit that you could just throw on for 40 mins when none of your music was really jumping out at you

yeah the loon is a good album

markers do you even intend on listening to this album man? too many indie rock album threads with like uner a dozen posts in them to be stinking this joint up unnecessarily & not in earnest imo. idk maybe i just dont get the joke

I've already started to come out of my indie rock fan begins posting to ILM starts raggin on indie all the time phase -- just picked up the new Deerhunter last week and will be grabbing the new Marnie Stern tomorrow -- but I can't help taking an easy shot at one of the bands that the hype machine picked up and dropped. fwiw, I'm not sure I even heard all of The Loon. at least listened to some of it back in early 2006 iirc. I like "Hang Them All"

oh yeah cuz if there's anyone that's still riding that hype machine wave past the beach and into the arms of a newfound and MASSIVE fan base it's marnie stern

i loved the first 2 decemberists albums more than anything back in high school

i guess i'd still f/w them but more for nostalgic value than anything

so 05 was the year indie lost me then? only one of those debuts sarge posted that i fuck with is lcd. maybe it's been a long slow decline since then.

dismemberment plan is a band i really don't get.

Blueberry Boat broke indie for me. Still a strong argument that it's the best indie record of that decade.

i liked the d-plan back in '02-'03 but man did they age badly

i think d-plan appeals to me mostly due to nostalgia.. "superpowers" and "face of the earth" especially. i've played it for people who thought the vox were annoying, which makes sense.. i would assume thats the major turnoff for most people.
