voted perfect situation but this was surprisingly tough. could easily have gone for pork and beans or any of the green/maladroit singles.

I guess Island in the Sun, but I'm not real big on any of these. (This Is Such a Pity -sounds- really good, production-wise, but the song's not really there.)

I am very comfortable saying that there's not a song on here that stands up to anything on the blue or Pinkerton tracklist. That said, Island in the Sun I guess.

if they do "Trainwrecks" as a single, it's an easy win for me

Not enough "The Greatest Man" love. I listened to it the other day and thought, "Oh, as of at least 2008, Rivers could still write a dang melody."

But seriously this is "Keep Fishin'"

I think Keep Fishin' is a seriously great, well-written pop song. and muppets! Does anyone else remember that saves the day video that came out around the same time? i guess those guys were more like fraggles, or something.
Pork and Beans I could do without, and I think you have to be drooling-on-yourself-level drunk to like Beverly Hills.

"around the same time" was actually a few months before, i think.

So many of Weezer's current fans claim to be in it because the band doesn't take itself too seriously--because they're "fun" and have a sense of humor. "The Greatest Man" is the only post-Green album song I've heard where this is unambiguous and Cuomo is actually funny. The police siren, the a cappella Beach Boys breakdown, the lyrics...the individual parts somehow work for me. And the closing chorus is stellar. Its' a great song.

"Keep Fishin'" has always been a favorite as well, and I think it stands up to most of the Green album.

Had to go with Keep Fishin'.......love Island in the Sun too, but radio kind of killed it for me.

"Island in the Sun" is the best and "Beverly Hills" is the worst

"Island In The Sun" is just kind of pleasant and bland, it bums me out that the Green Album/Maladroit stuff seems to be getting the most goodwill when they've got more recent stuff that's so much more hooky and memorable imo

tbh I don't really know most of the more recent stuff

"I Want You To" is good. Don't remember a damn thing about "Pork & Beans" other than it had a stupid video. Don't think I've anything else post-Make Believe.

yeah i think that's generally the thing, a lot of people that were willing to pay attention to them when they first came back, but from Make Believe onward only heard maybe a couple of the bigger hits

i'm not totally offended by this since there are some Sum 41 and Good Charlotte songs i like but to me this is one of their liveliest, catchiest, most infectious songs. it was co-written by Butch Walker, who made probably my favorite album of 2010.

so I've heard that song a few times before on the radio, and I honestly did think it was sum 41/good charlotte/etc.

really? that's bizarre. why? because there's a gang shout moment on the chorus? it otherwise sounds like snappy power pop to me.

I think it's the way he sings? more nasal pop punk-y than usual?

Island In The Sun is a diamond-hard pop song. It wasn't over-exposed in the UK like in the States.

nah the "fuck these guys" sentiment increased gradually from the green album to maladroit to make believe. Hash Pipe made #9 on the Pazz and Jop poll that year - and I'm definitely of the group that thinks those first two 00s albums were harmless if mindless compared to what follows.
