http://jesu.bandcamp.com/album/jesu-picture-disc-mix-unreleased-original-vision

This is the master that was NOT used for what became the Picture Disc Mix, this was intended to be the master, but was shelved last minute; this master was intentionally sampled at a higher rate, so as to achieve a 'pop' sound / production, unlike the mix to be found on the 'actual' jesu Self Titled, a move which would be an absolute travesty for some! And a move that was decided against at the last minute, so the master was resampled back to the original pitch and sent to be pressed as the Picture Disc. So, this master is unreleased, and available here for the first time, the 'actual' Picture Disc master, is also available here at Bandcamp.

The Picture Disc of the Self Titled Jesu album, was remixed entirely for the LTD ED Picture Disc version (1000 copies), released in 2006. An Alternative mix with quite significant differences to the original album mix; the concept was to remix it more 'cleanly', due to the original mix containing a lot of distortion. There are still clicks, etc in this mix though due to the nature of the original recording. Here, the album is now remastered in 2012, since the original Picture Disc master was intentionally mastered flat.

The catalyst for this entire remix of the album was the pressing plant who were to cut and press the picture disc - with the original master of the S/T, they claimed the original was to max'ed out and distorted to be cut to an picture disc! I was, at the time, intrigued by the concept of a cleaner, and even 'poppier' mix of this album, anyway, so set about cleaning the the thing up. Hence the re-sampled higher speed version; attempting to go even further with this 'pop' concept.
For the record, my personal favourite mix of this album IS the original mix, which is known, universally, as the debut jesu album 'S/T', the mix that made it to CD/Vinyl, etc, etc.

Justin K Broadrick. May 2012.

http://drokk.bandcamp.com - A Portishead bloke and a soundtracks bloke take on JUDGE DREDD with Carpenter-esque synth stylings. In contention for album of the year. Yes, I already talked about this one in the free Bandcamp thread and I wasn't supposed to.

http://pilotpriest.bandcamp.com/ - A more danceable take on 80s-style synth soundtracks. Jury's out on it but it's only a buck.

Surprised Ned hasn't posted this here already. 96 space rock/psych/electronic/experimental/what-have-you tracks from folks like Roy Montgomery, Windy and Carl, ST37, Primordial Undermind, Subarachnoid Space, et al. Thirty bucks for I don't know how many hours of music. This was conceived as a tribute recording to critic/fan/good egg Lee Jackson, who died earlier this year at a very young age.

Disclaimer, The Roswell Incident (featuring the full original lineup of myself and Elvis Telecom) is on the album. Money from the sales price goes to funding ALS (Lou Gherig's Disease) research.

StanM, Tuesday, 30 July 2024 17:34 (six months ago) link

I get dozens a day, it's ludicrous. I wish I could kill the listening party ones in particular.

I did once have StanM's problem, and contacted Bandcamp. They told me have a VERY proactive system to block further emails from going out to people if they ever bounce or get spam filtered so that they don't get accused of spamming people, so you may need to ask them to manually reinstate all your "following artist" emails.

I get dozens a day, it's ludicrous. I wish I could kill the listening party ones in particular.

My biggest gripe, being reminded that you have 10 mins till a listening party starts that you have no intention of attending, is a mess.

not even counting the international time difference, where some of them are literally middle of the night for me.

Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 6 September 2024 16:16 (five months ago) link

Same but I think it's important to acknowledge each one of those emails, take a moment to think about the year of work and the hopes and dream that went into each one of them, and delete them individually.

(or open each one into browser tabs that make me feel guilty for weeks until I have so many open that I can no longer see what they represent)

Jordan s/t (Jordan), Friday, 6 September 2024 16:40 (five months ago) link

First off, buy my album. http://chrisirregardless.bandcamp.com

Second off, look over these two lists of Bandcamps from folx on (and formerly on) the two Cardiacs Discord servers. First one is the main list, second one is a list of folx who haven't released anything lately, folx who are known in Cardiacs fandom but aren't really active in the server, and folx who I didn't really want to put in the main list for reasons that don't need to be talked about here. I really recommend Casio Shortbread, April 1830, Cori&Her, Oily Bastard, and Timsvb (Logan Posthumous's main works suffer from technical issues that their mashups don't have.)

it will always annoy me that Bandcamp doesn't have a way to bundle up your purchases into a single transaction and distribute it to the artists/labels on the backend

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Saturday, 5 October 2024 00:08 (four months ago) link

yeah, that is annoying. I often add things to my cart more or less indiscriminately, and sometimes I just want to shop from my cart, if that makes sense, and not spend $500 in one go. My hack, if you can call it that, is that I open the items I don't want immediately in new tabs, remove them from the cart temporarily, and then add them back after I buy what I want. If they had a "pay only this seller"-type option like eBay, that would be very convenient

Wait, what? I thought they did. I feel like every time I check out I get a message that says something like, "Because you're using Paypal, you'll have to check out somewhere between five and 15 times. If you were using a credit card, we could do one big charge."

I store a bunch of stuff on my wishlist and then slam a few of those in with my purchases. The only downside is buying something doesn’t remove it from the wishlist? Not unique to bandcamp

afaict bandcamp does accounting by label/seller account and always does charges that way. makes some sense because each account could have a separate tax/country and they’re acting not as an intermediary taking a cut and not a true store with inventory

thank you for posting music area. it's sounding really neat!

i also posted one their old songs on random old r&b you are loving but here's the most recent thing from about a year ago: https://vespresounds.bandcamp.com/album/things-we-want-to-know-ep

tags are "alternative r&b/soul detroit." i'm hearing shades of 80s streetsoul in the music and the 90s neosouler adrianna evans in the vocals. but all filtered through a dreamy chillwave lens. check out "warm guns" for a resonating wash. my only regret is not hearing it in time to nom it for best of 2024.

have just finished my first full listen of the music area album and i completely recommend it. very different kind of ambient/environmental music, but still scratches the itch without issue. good stuff.

one month passes...

no clue what's going on here. singer from pretoria, johannesburg wants $30 for a digital download of a 20 minute ep...

...thing is, the music jams pretty hard. complete 90s revival, from convincing american r+b beats, through 2-step streesoul and triphop reminiscent sounds. it all culminates in the final track "where?" ― pure layered haze and soundtracked breakbeats; apparently she's doing most of this herself. it's also on streaming platforms if that price is outside of your budget.

big recommend.
