When faced with a clothing label that says "dry clean only" do you follow the instructions or use other methods? If other laundry methods are used, describe.

i laugh in the face of dry cleaning. if an article of laundry wants me to dry clean it then it is living in a fool's paradise, baby, because cat does not roll like that, never has, never will. any clothing that can't handle the rough-and-tumble of my building's industrialass washers & dryers can shimmy on back to wherever the fuck it came from because i sure as hell didn't invite it into my life.

but aren't there like these special bags you can put those types of clothes in, and you add some particular damp washcloth thing, and put it in a dryer on low heat? i think my mom used to have a home dry cleaning kit that was something like that.

my deepest sympathies to those forced by cruel convention to dress in suits or whatnot on a regular basis. i would run screaming into a bog rather than face the demands of such a wardrobe.

Dry cleaning is risky, because there's always the chance that I won't remember to pick it up within 30 days. Dry-clean only garments that I've owned have tended to be suits or wool trousers for work, so they are already devalued by costing too much and being clothes I wouldn't want to wear in the first place. Then I have to pay more on top of that to clean them? Thankfully, I haven't been required to dress like that in a long time.

My wife will sometimes throw a wool scarf into the washer on gentle. It works alright for her tastes, but I'm still convinced that it harms the fibers. On the rare occasion that I have to wash something delicate nowadays, I prefer to handwash in the tub.

I kept seeing the ILM thread in Site New Answers and thought about dry cleaning clothes, and so I started this thread. I have probably started "revenge threads" in the past, but this is not ones of them.
