I just watched that Swedish movie last weekend and everyone -- EVERYONE -- wanders around indoors wearing at least one if not two giant hand-knitty sweaters. It looks cozy until you realize it probably means that it's only 57 degrees indoors.

i'm of the opinion that sweaters should never zip, so that deer head one is not for me.

though i am a big fan of the snowflake-patterned, fairisle-type figured sweater type things -- i've been looking for a good one for a while, but i'm pretty picky about color and pattern.

caveat: if you are a already a douche these sweaters will absolutely magnify that fact, e.g. --

i've got a lee hazlewood tv special from when he was making the duets records in sweden. everyone's going for the big scandanavian sweater/heavy gold chain combo.

I think these are just what are known in cold places as "really warm, really ugly sweaters that are really cheap at the second-hand store". Which of course means they'll have a renaissance at some point (now?) and spawn Urban Outfitters versions in pilly synthetics.

I am sort of a nostalgic sucker for the finely knit Scandanavian ones with the metal buckles. I think my mom has four of them in different color-ways. I have none but wd not be surprised if I acquired some cheesy, hand-knitty ones before age 50.

I am not really sure what to make of the metal buttons on the collar. Are you supposed to tie them or sth?

For now, for the keeping of warm I'm still wearing out the crew-neck lambswool sweaters from Lands' End and Eddie Bauer that I bought in lol college. All in lovely heathered browns and greens and now full of moth holes.

Uniqlo not only has chalet sweaters, but chalet sweater dresses. I got a white snowflake-pattern cardigan with a hood but I may return it.

yes in fairness ppl have been wearing multiple variations on these types of sweaters for a good 100 years but it is notably true that there's been a huge upswing in morons in williamsburg throwing "sweater parties" and these style items all appearing in uniqlo and h&m & brooklyn industries so let's not be disingenuous here just because yes, ppl holidaying in aspen have worn these forever.
