The very idea of this thread may be ridiculous now, but just wait until 2018 when they've reached the same platitudes of the Seattle Mariners and Colorado Rockies.

Carl Crawford was my number-one draft pick this season, and quite honestly, he's been letting me down. (Him and Mr. Jeffrey Kent - LAD.)

However, last night in Toronto, my boy went five for five including one home-run, two rbi's, and three stolen bases. He even scored sometime after each of his five hits, contributing half of his team's 10 to 8 victory over the Blue Jays.

It just did my heart proud to see those stats on my fantasy team this morning. GOOD JORB, CC!

The value of dumping Old Lou Piniella and stealing an All-Star pitcher from the Mets can't be overestimated.

Carl Crawford: A Closer Look at Crawford's Big Game Wednesday

RotoWire.com Staff - RotoWire.com
Friday, May 26, 2006
Update: Crawford's big game for the Devil Rays on Wednesday (5-for-5, five runs scored, four stolen bases) hasn't been matched in major league play in at least 50 years, according to information provided by Retrosheet to the Devil Rays and reported in the Tampa Tribune.

Recommendation: Retrosheet did confirm that Crawford was the first player with five hits and four steals in an MLB game since Rickey Henderson turned the trick on April 11, 1988. (The Jays beat the Yanks, 17-9, despite Rickey's heroics; Rick Rhoden got shelled. The winning pitcher that day? A very young David Wells, who'll face Crawford on Friday when Boston hosts the Rays.) As of Thursday, Retrosheet researcher Dave Smith was still searching beyond 1957 to determine whether Crawford's feat had been equaled at any time in baseball history.

Tampa Bay Stays with Devil Rays, at least through next season.

And free parking to boot!

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 20:48 (eighteen years ago) link

Free parking if you can find it that is! The stadium holds 40K, I think all the lots combined accomdate about 8K worth of cars (WAG). Which is fine when you're drawing 14K a game, not fine when the Yanks or Bosox come to town.

Rocco Baldelli's hitting .348/.400/.478 for Durham after 7 games. He's still at least another week away.

all kinds of wtf goin on
"Rays" was the owner's first choice, but the organization considered others like Cannons, Stars, Wave and Dukes before settling on Rays and developing a logo featuring a bright yellow sunburst.

Carl Crawford, Scott Kazmir, Rocco Baldelli, B.J. Upton, Delmon Young, Edwin Jackson and Al Reyes were among the players modeling the uniforms. The evening was capped by a concert featuring the actor Kevin Costner and his band, Modern West.

Steve Shasta, Friday, 29 February 2008 01:27 (sixteen years ago) link

I think before. BP's depth chart still has him pitching 195 innings of 3.24 ERA ball.

Bill James

Do you have any World Series predictions?

No, I used to do predictions, because I had to. But I haven't trapped myself in a position where I've had to in awhile. I'll give you one prediction. I'm not saying they're going to win the World Series, but the most improved team in baseball this year is Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay is a lot better than they have been since as long as they've been around. They finally have things put together, and they're going to be a .500 or better team this year.

Even in the American League East, where the Red Sox and Yankees have dominated for such a long time?

Yeah. That's why I question whether anyone in this division is going to be able to win 95, 96 games. We've had two teams from the AL East in the playoffs for years, and maybe we will again. But the AL East is so strong and competitive this year, with Toronto and Tampa Bay as good as they are, I don't know if that's going to happen.

Apr 8 Upton went 1-for-2 (triple, two walks, two steals, including a steal of home) before being ejected in the seventh in Tuesday's loss to the Mariners.

Recommendation: Upton was ejected for running without a shoe, which fell off as he was running out his triple.

that shit w/ b.j upton is ridiculous. i hope the manager got his ass thrown out getting in the ump's for that.

The manager did get tossed but I believe it was for arguing the out call at third.

I don't remember Upton getting ejected, though.

TAMPA, Fla. -- Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Al Reyes was shocked with a stun gun and arrested early Friday after police say he fell against a ceramic pot in a bar, got up and picked a fight with a man he thought pushed him.

Reyes, treated at the scene for a cut on his nose, was charged with being in a fight that disturbed the peace. Eduardo Mora was charged with battery. Both men were released on their own recognizance, police said.

Witnesses told officers that Reyes, who turned 38 on Thursday, appeared to be intoxicated when he exchanged words with Mora, who punched the 6-foot-1, 240-pound pitcher in the face at the Hyde Park Cafe around 2:30 a.m.

A police statement said that when bouncers grabbed Mora, Reyes began spitting blood on patrons and swinging his arms. When the bouncers were unable to control Reyes, a police officer working extra duty at the club intervened, asking Reyes to stop.

When the pitcher "continued spitting blood and thrashing about," the officer told Reyes he was going to use his Taser, which knocked Reyes to the ground. He was shocked a second time after not complying with commands to stay down.

The Rays did not have an immediate comment.

Dudes they swept the Red Sox WITH GOOD PITCHING.

They deserve their own thread for this year since they're clearly going to finish 2nd (behind the O's).

I'll think of one unless someone else does.
