I don't care how good he was this season, I can't take Ryan Franklin seriously as a closer. It's not so much because of his pitching, but because every time I hear the guy's name I remember the time that me and Thermo went to see Jays vs Mariners at and spent two innings heckling Franklin while he was getting rocked in relief. He gave up about five runs, threw at somebody, and was ejected. It was the most satisfying heckling experience of my life.

Andy K, Friday, 9 October 2009 03:42 (fifteen years ago) link

Holliday's error reminds me of a similar gaffe in the 2003 NLDS:

Jose Cruz Jr. was signed as a free agent by the San Francisco Giants on January 28, 2003. In San Francisco, he won a Gold Glove and broke Willie Mays' franchise single-season record for outfield assists with 19. Unfortunately, a few days before the Gold Glove was awarded to Cruz, he dropped a routine fly ball in the eleventh inning of game 3 of the NLDS against the Marlins. That error started a Marlins rally, and the Marlins took a 2 games to 1 lead in the series which they never relinquished.
