MLB The Show 13

I'm liking it - I can actually hit! First time I haven't been completely inept at the plate in a baseball game.

Only a few games into the season but I simmed ahead and it looks like player progression actually works, which is new for a baseball game - Dylan Bundy goes from a 79 to the mid 80s by mid-season, having a good year.

I have to adjust my sliders because the game is currently playing for me like it's MLB The Show 98.

Which is to say in my first game I hit 6 homers and my friend hit 3 homers. And in subsequent games vs. the computer and I each hit about 3-5 a game.

I started a franchise but yet to really start simming, my friend who bought the game on the same day though immediately got deep into the trading and basically turned the Mariners into the sexiest team ever... in fact, he sent me the trade history & current lineup, lemme find em.

francisF, Friday, 8 March 2013 15:35 (eleven years ago) link

i'll have to buy the game first

francisF, Friday, 8 March 2013 15:36 (eleven years ago) link

man i haven't been able to hit a ball in a baseball game since high heat bb for the pc in the 90s. might have to check this out.

My problem is strike zone judgement. I barely walk at all.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Friday, 8 March 2013 16:12 (eleven years ago) link

Which corresponds to my experience playing as a kid, natch. I was Vlad Guerrero without any of the natural ability.

walking in bb games is like punting in madden for me. this is why i am bad at sports games.

adam, Friday, 8 March 2013 16:15 (eleven years ago) link

Bought it but have yet to play it. Owned only 2K versions prior to this. Hoping I can adjust the sliders to hit singles with greater-than-natural frequency since realistic OBP is a goal but plate discipline is not.

last night i walked with my leadoff guy, feels good

recommend not using the "guess pitch" function, i find it makes me actually, like, pay less attention to the pitch itself. when i just "use the force, luke" i watch every pitch the whole way.

Bob-omb The Videogame Industry! (Will M.), Friday, 8 March 2013 16:52 (eleven years ago) link

i usually guess pitch the first pitch and let fly on what the pitcher's pattern indicates he's going to throw and take anything else, but i like au natural too - i am usually in the 'guess pitch off' rooms mainly because ppl online sometimes sit dead read the whole game and it's like "i know what you're doing dummy, i'm not throwing a fastball", but i eventually do and they hit a homerun and i lose because hitting is impossible against yankee-using jag-offs with some idea of how to use CC effectively :P

francisF, Friday, 8 March 2013 18:32 (eleven years ago) link

i have actually enver played online but i play often with my neighbour/buddy and we have a gentleman's agreement to never guess pitch bc its more fun if you don't when you're in the same room

Bob-omb The Videogame Industry! (Will M.), Friday, 8 March 2013 22:04 (eleven years ago) link

yeah no guess pitch is better - i wish i had a neighbour/buddy that was into this game enough to be good at it. it's either 'home run derby' mode or firing up the ol' nes for a few rounds of rbi baseball 2 i.e. 2 buttons or less :/
