I want a drink

apparently not the band, but the lifestyle (jjjusten), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 22:43 (fourteen years ago) link

specifically, i want a bartender to make me a fancy drink which i can sup upon and enjoy with vigor

apparently not the band, but the lifestyle (jjjusten), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 22:45 (fourteen years ago) link

Perhaps someone can suggest a local bar...

Is Vigor a friend and does he join you often in liquid refections?

ok that does it, somebody i know is getting renamed "vigor"

apparently not the band, but the lifestyle (jjjusten), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 22:52 (fourteen years ago) link

He's like Igor's cousin who lives in Bratislava, right?

If the US had a dictator we'd call him coach (Michael White), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 22:53 (fourteen years ago) link

(anybody who shows up with the "no you dont understand, vigor is the name of my dog" trope is getting threadbanned btw)

You say that as if there's anything louche about drinking with one's dog! Man's best friend, indeed, if you can both go out and get heated together.

If the US had a dictator we'd call him coach (Michael White), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 22:57 (fourteen years ago) link

This does remind me of a local friend who, when he's getting hammered, will invariably say that he's getting 'vigorously drunk'.

If the US had a dictator we'd call him coach (Michael White), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 22:58 (fourteen years ago) link

i drink with my dog all the time, but he is a teetotaler, which would be fantastic but he also cant drive

AS FAR AS I KNOW, THAT IS

apparently not the band, but the lifestyle (jjjusten), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 22:59 (fourteen years ago) link

i would consider middle naming my first born vigor if you did something SUPER awesome for me, jjjjjjjjj.

tehresa, Thursday, 10 June 2010 01:02 (fourteen years ago) link

I just had a dream the other night that I had a new baby boy (wow, was I surprised). If this ever happens, "Vigor" definitely going into my top ten middle name choices. Because "James Vigor" >>>> "James Louis." (Sorry, Grandpa.)

Sara R-C, Thursday, 10 June 2010 01:51 (fourteen years ago) link

someone i know should also be named moxie

apparently not the band, but the lifestyle (jjjusten), Thursday, 10 June 2010 17:40 (fourteen years ago) link

so i could go out and drink with vigor and moxie obv

apparently not the band, but the lifestyle (jjjusten), Thursday, 10 June 2010 17:41 (fourteen years ago) link

etymology of the word moxie makes this all the more apropos tbh, which i had not thought of until deciding to name someone it

apparently not the band, but the lifestyle (jjjusten), Thursday, 10 June 2010 17:42 (fourteen years ago) link

It is becoming painfully clear that I have been overly conservative with my naming choices.

I'd love to name my daughter Moxie Brass.

Swimming lessons for the kids start tomorrow morning. Hope they don't freeze... and that I can get out of bed and get them there on time.

bah swimming is for people that cant afford yachts

before you post, consider just admitting you are wrong (jjjusten), Monday, 14 June 2010 06:04 (fourteen years ago) link

We can barely afford swimsuits, never mind the yachts!

Sara R-C, Monday, 14 June 2010 17:59 (fourteen years ago) link

Gotta say this went FAR better than I thought it would; kids swam in the rain and I worried about it, but they had fun. 4lex can't wait to pass the first level and start learning to SWIM. This is crazy, since it was just a few months ago that he wouldn't put his face in the water. J I'm less surprised about, but still!

Sara R-C, Monday, 14 June 2010 18:00 (fourteen years ago) link

I have rediscovered why basketball (and sports in general) are fun to watch, and that reason is this:

It is an ironclad excuse to go over to a friend's house and drink without appearing sad/pathetic.

btw anyone else preorder the new iPhone? I feel kind of like a chump but srsly it's the first iPhone that I've really, really WANTED as opposed to getting for free/replacing a lost one and not wanting to deal with reshuffling my account line and data plan.

We'll see about watching these "NBA finals;" I'm going out with the Widows tonight...

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 15 June 2010 14:42 (fourteen years ago) link

i would get excited about ordering the new iphone if it you know worked as a fucking phone half the time. also, bandwidth allotment plans = lick my balls.

ULTRAMAN dat ho (jjjusten), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 18:01 (fourteen years ago) link

That's some seriously odd niche kink.

If the US had a dictator we'd call him coach (Michael White), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 18:08 (fourteen years ago) link

we minnesotans are a private people, we find what we can to get by

ULTRAMAN dat ho (jjjusten), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 18:09 (fourteen years ago) link

"Hmm, is that a bandwidth allotment plan laying there? Yeah, looks like it is." Looks around to see if anyone else is in the house. "Hey ababy, you're looking mighty fine!"

If the US had a dictator we'd call him coach (Michael White), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 18:12 (fourteen years ago) link

lol John, the bandwidth allotment plan is cheaper than the current "unlimited" plan from every conceivable angle:

avg price/MB in the current plan: 10 cents
avg price/MB in the 2GB plan: 1 cent

plus the current plan is a baseline $30/month/phone + massive overage charges and the new plan is $25/month/phone with predictable, difficult to reach overage charges

I had the same initial reaction but like 5 seconds of googling gives you a lot of innnnnnnteresting info

I guess the iPhone is perfect for ppl like me, who use it pretty much as a text-capable iPod that can surf the web for porn restaurants

Damn these skinny jeans' pockets. (HI DERE), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 18:42 (fourteen years ago) link

I don't need one and barely use the crappy cell phone I have, but I WANT one!!!

Of course, I do like to surf for restaurants.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 19:16 (fourteen years ago) link

nah i get that its going to be cheaper but i kind of dig what a dude on lol npr was saying about the idea that limitations on access change the way people use these devices and that that is a huge step backward - ie mopes like me that dont look into it are going to be all freaked out about whther they should stream last.fm while they cut their lawn

ULTRAMAN dat ho (jjjusten), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 20:39 (fourteen years ago) link

um yeah, I am online dangerously close to 24/7 with my phone whether it be online games, internet radio apps, or apps that do a combo of googling and gps work, and I AVERAGE something like 20 MB of data used per month

I think streaming last.fm is gonna be okay for you; just a hunch

compare/contrast to my "oh right, I like these hip-hop artists too" section:

"Jezebel" - Dizzee Rascal
"99 Problems" - Jay-Z
"Love Lockdown" - Kanye West
"6 Foot 7 Foot" - Lil Wayne
"When Will They Shoot?" - Ice Cube
"Drop It Like It's Hot" - Snoop Dogg
"Hand on the Pump" - Cypress Hill
"Jump Around" - House of Pain
"King of Rock" - Run-DMC
"It Wasn't Me" - Shaggy feat. RickRock
"Rosa Parks" - Outkast

all of this comes immediately after a Kitchens of Distinction song

Omg I was so worried about fiddler girl I was unprepared for how terribad this lead singer is

Please let Walt Mink come out early

bluegrass guy = Eric Royer (honestly he was good, he just should have only done like 3 songs instead of 10 because it got old REALLY fast; he did an awesome song about hunting a man-killing boar tho)

terribad band = Fax Holiday (the songs were actually kind of cool but none of them were in tune with each other and I hated the singer)

pretty much

I felt bad for them, they clearly knew how to play their instruments but the bass was sooooooo sharp and the violin was sooooooo flat compared to the guitar, it torpedoed pretty much everything they tried to do

also the singer sounded like the dude from Pavement with a cold

well that description doesn't sound very promising; FAX HOLIDAY, YOU ARE DEAD TO ME

Y/N I should start a thread for ridiculous sentences in romance novels.

Example: "When I take a woman I am the only man whose rod comes inside her. There will be no comparisons, at least no immediate ones."

(The best part of that is that after he gets her to dismiss her other lovers, he goes to her place the next night. I guess his definition of "immediate" is something like, "within three hours.")
