this band is so goddamn awesome MOD EDIT BAND IN QUESTION WAS THE TOADIES BUT OPEN SEASON FOR ALL IMO

apparently not the band, but the lifestyle (jjjusten), Saturday, 12 June 2010 04:08 (fourteen years ago) link

not actually drunk per se, just that perfect level of spongelike and appreciative, and srsly this band oh hell

apparently not the band, but the lifestyle (jjjusten), Saturday, 12 June 2010 04:10 (fourteen years ago) link

(warmed up with a brief tour through everclear but we've moved on now.)

apparently not the band, but the lifestyle (jjjusten), Saturday, 12 June 2010 04:11 (fourteen years ago) link

btw anybody who hasn't revisited the toadies w/the perspective of listening to the lead singer exorcising his uberfundamentalist upbringing is missing like 90% of what makes them amazing - start w/backslider as a tutorial

apparently not the band, but the lifestyle (jjjusten), Saturday, 12 June 2010 04:13 (fourteen years ago) link

ive been listening to the frogs all week. sonic amphibian week up in here.

knocking u out like rocky balboa (sunny successor), Saturday, 12 June 2010 04:14 (fourteen years ago) link

and uh exorcising isnt even the right word, its the sound of a dude coming to terms w/deeply ingrained religion that he is still down with but staring into the void of the practices that surround it, just amazing.

xpost: oh dude, the frogs are so great! so down with bands that present themselves to cursory listeners (or confused lollapalooza crowd-members) as a pisstake and then kind of pull back the curtain and do amazing stuff.

apparently not the band, but the lifestyle (jjjusten), Saturday, 12 June 2010 04:21 (fourteen years ago) link

btw toadies followup (like a billion years later) hell below/stars above is a neglected masterpiece.

Drunoxed and listening to the Disintegration reissue.

Elvis Telecom, Saturday, 12 June 2010 04:51 (fourteen years ago) link

YES I DID! i am just crap at facebookining. that is crazy. when was this (i did uh date her twice so i am trying to figure out the timing).

apparently not the band, but the lifestyle (jjjusten), Saturday, 12 June 2010 04:52 (fourteen years ago) link

is there anything wisconsin cant do?!?!?

knocking u out like rocky balboa (sunny successor), Saturday, 12 June 2010 04:53 (fourteen years ago) link

note: it is possible that if tales were told by dated lady, i may have come off as a bit of an asshole, because i think at that point in my life i was a bit of an asshole.

xpost: NO. wisco has a special power

apparently not the band, but the lifestyle (jjjusten), Saturday, 12 June 2010 04:54 (fourteen years ago) link

(sorry to hijack your thread btw - This would have been in the fall of 1999 when she briefly lived in Boston. Do you also know her best friend Jen B? They moved out here together and I worked at a bar with Jen around that same time. LOL. No tales were told but I totally understand. At first I was like OH COOL and then oh shit - she could tell some not so great stories from my youth! If the two of you ever talked about me I would probably just come off as a crazy drunk because I was 21 and pretty much was a crazy drunk at that point but she sorta was too)

o sh!t a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ (ENBB), Saturday, 12 June 2010 04:56 (fourteen years ago) link

see yeah that first frogs video is exactly what im talking about. so awesome

xpost oh hey hooray crazy drunks tbh.

apparently not the band, but the lifestyle (jjjusten), Saturday, 12 June 2010 04:57 (fourteen years ago) link

also by not really having my threads make sense in the first place they are IMPREVIOUS TO HIJACK which is how i like them.

want to know more about disintegration reissue as well.

apparently not the band, but the lifestyle (jjjusten), Saturday, 12 June 2010 04:58 (fourteen years ago) link

LOL

o sh!t a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ (ENBB), Saturday, 12 June 2010 04:58 (fourteen years ago) link

^^^okay there is nothing surprising to me about "John dated this woman I met" if she lived anywhere in the Midwest in the last 25 years. (Please PLEASE say it was the one who sold your pain medication behind your back, though, PLEASE)

Sara R-C, Saturday, 12 June 2010 04:59 (fourteen years ago) link

want to know more about disintegration reissue as well.

See here: Why is there no thread for The Cure's Disintegration?

Elvis Telecom, Saturday, 12 June 2010 05:00 (fourteen years ago) link

omg there is a hilarious performance of the frogs on smashing pumpkins viewphoria vid that is A++++++ .... i think it's a song about being gay and telling his mum??? i can't remember it's been a while

just1n3, Saturday, 12 June 2010 05:01 (fourteen years ago) link

no no i know about the thread, i am encouraging not-ilm cautious effusive love sonnets of awesomeness, because that is how we do it on this thread right here. xpost

apparently not the band, but the lifestyle (jjjusten), Saturday, 12 June 2010 05:02 (fourteen years ago) link

btw the best part of all this was that when I asked her how she knows John J and she got to say "I dated him a long time ago" whereas when I was asked the same question I had to fess up to being an internet dork.

o sh!t a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ (ENBB), Saturday, 12 June 2010 05:03 (fourteen years ago) link

ENBB, your excuse is that you lived in the wrong place. (btw, I am TOTALLY in love with the pix of Benson on your FB page!!!)

Sara R-C, Saturday, 12 June 2010 05:05 (fourteen years ago) link

I am sad that I have no idea about any of these bands (other than The Cure, duh), but will investigate somehow at some point. Not like I don't have oodles of free time of late.

haven't been drinking, but I do have some Aphex Twin (Selected Ambient Works 85-92) on right now and it's hitting the spot iirc

ksh, Saturday, 12 June 2010 05:44 (fourteen years ago) link

okay, listened to Jimmy Eat World clip (liked), now have put The Cure's Disintegration on because I can, just as long as I don't wake everyone else in my house (sleeping kids, husband who wants to go running tomorrow morning at some ungodly hour)

ok so kimmo pohjonen

he is a finnish dude that plays accordion (i think he uses wikipedia so leave yer assumptions at the door) and as a devoted accordion lover (no really) i put him in the top circle, srsly, in the reach of astor piazolla and flaco jimenez. so good.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVgbSlnKVDQ

xxxpost: aphex SAW is so so dope.

sorry guys i broke ilx with awesome (jjjusten), Saturday, 12 June 2010 06:03 (fourteen years ago) link

cliffs and hexagon are prob my go to tracks on the afx but oh man it is all good

sorry guys i broke ilx with awesome (jjjusten), Saturday, 12 June 2010 06:08 (fourteen years ago) link

Will listen to that next, but not before "Love Song" is over. Not good karma to interrupt a Cure song (I am making up rulez here, but I don't care).

Can't claim to be an accordion lover, but my closest friend from nursing school is suddenly learning the accordion and I was shocked at how good it sounded when I got to hear her play a couple weeks ago.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 12 June 2010 06:09 (fourteen years ago) link

ok now, you know what is the shit?

That's SAW II, not SAW. I'm with you that it's all great. "Rhubarb" is great for giving or receiving a massage.

I'm not as drunk as I ought to be, considering that I'm listening to the Hank Williams box. I should stop nursing this beer and just get on with it.

Eighteen straight. I think that's a record. (kenan), Saturday, 12 June 2010 06:18 (fourteen years ago) link

Okay, I like Tiny Dancer fine, but I can't help but mis-hear the lyrics ever since reading those books of misheard song lyrics someone gave me.

Hold me closer, Tony Danza
Count the head lice on the highway...

So now I laugh every time I hear the damn song.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 12 June 2010 06:21 (fourteen years ago) link

Discovered that The Cure's "Homesick" makes an amazing Bevis Frond-style acid rock blow out.

Elvis Telecom, Saturday, 12 June 2010 06:41 (fourteen years ago) link

ok so no one else still cares, but skeleton key was a great band.

no videos i could find. meh

sorry guys i broke ilx with awesome (jjjusten), Saturday, 12 June 2010 06:48 (fourteen years ago) link

Didn't even know Skeleton Key WAS a band. Thought it was just a movie I saw once.

Okay, going to bed at long last in a moment, thanks for reminding me to listen to music again, hopefully tomorrow no one will have to tell me to put on my socks and shoes and brush my teeth or anything.

good night ITR & <3 <3 <3 to you all

kenan i can not fully express my love for hank williams, lovesick blues is maybe a perfect song? at least as close as we scrubby monkeys might get.
