I think it's "checks." The tense doesn't make sense.

Yeah, but the concept of madlibs is that you just pick a word based on part of speech - tenses don't matter, so plenty of times, the sentences aren't grammatically correct.

They'll even say "past tense" and stuff like that. I think they do, anyway.
