btw why is everyone down on Daken? his "ramp up everyone's power with green matches" crossed with "heals a bunch given enough yellow tiles" combo works pretty well for me

my go-to grouping at the moment is Thor-modern Black Widow-Daken, although Thor/Cap-Baghead Spidey-classic Storm is a good backup lineup. I'm also finally starting to see some utility in modern Hawkeye now that he has more than just Avoid

Daken stops being useful except as a support character once you boost your core guys into the 40s in my experience, but then I haven't beefed him up yet

i am impressed with how much leeway the game gives you to character build and collect. i have not yet spent any money whatsoever.

these story modes are awesome; they give a ton of bonus points.

lol I'm playing two separate teams on my phone and my iPad; IIRC my phone Daken is around lvl 27 and my iPad Daken is around 37? 38?

anyway once you cross lvl 20, he starts having enough stamina to weather enough attacks for you be able to stick him in the back to heal when he gets low, but then for every green match that happens he throws two pretty powerful strike tiles out there for every free red with no upper limit AFAICT, meaning that your main attack guy suddenly starts hitting everything like massive sledgehammer after 2-3 turns with a good board full of green. then add in Thor who has one power that fills in green tiles and one power that fills in yellow tiles and Daken is basically indestructible unless your tank gets taken out or someone can one-shot him

I don't like using Daken because of his annoying animations on green match. it fucks with the click click click pleasure. if in tennis, during a nice series of volleys, the ball would stop in mid air occasionally, and the player would do a triple back flip and shout. "ta da!", then resume the volleying...that would be annoying. that's Daken

these new story missions are CRAZY easy and offer lots of bonuses; worth plowing through

hahaha yes that is the Daken animation but the payoff of having the ball suddenly be 10% heavier for your opponent is worth it IMO

btw can I say X-Force Wolverine is surprisingly powerful even with only one power at lvl 1? utility-wise he is kind of unversatile but he packs a surprising punch and is a good "I'll use him to mop up while I wait for my A-line to heal" character

I'm also surprised at how much more useful bagman Spidey is becoming, although he's not as good in PVP as I want him to be

most of the 4* lv.30 characters are pretty useful as fodder for a while, just because of the HP

I seem to rely in juggernaut. Because of the hit points and I use the red power when I'm in a bind. I hate myself for it though.

oh man i hate those super overleveled missions. but i guess it gives us a goal for supergrinding

I am generally rocking Daken lvl 50ish + Wolverine Classic lvl 50 + the tournament special character (and if he's not available, lvl 40 jug, or lvl 40 thor).

Wolv + Daken is just sickening, each green matchup boosting dmg + every 6 green doing dmg AND boosting dmg... basically if I can survive the first few rounds (which I usually can if I swap between my "tank" jug/supplied character and the wolfy twins) I'm doing 300, 400 damage per crappy 3-match and tearing through dudes (with the occasional wolv slash red attack thing for insult).

Added bonus: if the twins are taknig damage, stick them in the back, let the supplied char take damage, hit for whatever crap damage + INSANO BONUS DAMAGE, twins heal

Double added bonus: instead of using health packs on daken/wolverine, enter an easy prologue fight, do low damage but let them heal to nearly 100%, tada! faster than waiting for them to heal regularly & more economical than burning health packs (and since you don't have to burn health packs on supplied characters, i can basically fight every 5m with no health packs used as much as my heart desires)

waiting for health packs used to be the biggest drag on my ability to play but now it's making sure my battery isn't going to die 2ce a day

^^^ this is a strategy I aspire to but I am really enamored of Widow's ability to steal gems and freeze ppl

btw, the publisher forum for the game is a good place to get strategies and is fairly civil

major change to classic storm just took effect today from:
Raging Tempest - Yellow Passive
(PASSIVE) Any time a teammate takes > 20% of their health in direct damage, Storm invokes a wall of elements. It damages the enemy team for 125 and generates 4 Red AP.
to:
(PASSIVE) Storm surrounds her team with a whirling tempest that unleashes fury when provoked. If a team member is damaged for 20% of their max health, it deals (x) damage to all enemies. If every team member is below 50% health, damage increases to (about 6.67x).

this is pretty important in that
1) storm HERSELF being hit triggers tempest which means the only ways to beat her without taking damage is to chip away or stun her
2) no more red ap bonus
3) though it's not clear by the above, it's apparently notably less damage for each tempest hit than it used to be

including Storm herself as a trigger SUX so they better have dropped the damage

it's a nerfing intended pretty much to force you to heal more often.

nothing is funnier than watching a modern Storm duel, has this nerfed that?

you mean does it loop back and forth with hits? dunno!

the only ways to beat her without taking damage is to chip away or stun her

or kill her with one attack

(my wolverine claws do 1325 now, plus the strike tiles, can get up into the 1500, 1600 range easy)

definitely feels weaker. i was wondering what happened to that ability. i assume this will cut down on the storm counterattack ping-pong, which usually resulted in insta-kill for one member

Spider-man classic's purple ability was basically changed to a weaker version of Bulleye's, which is nice, because it was useless without the other ability to create Web tiles

I ran into that in a PVP battle and got pwned massively but it was so funny I didn't mind that much

(I promptly stopped using classic Storm as an A-lister as a result but it's still good comedy, ping-ponging Tempests until a Storm dies)

my juggernaut/iron man 53/thor team does pretty well if i ALWAYS start them with a red/yellow boost in iron man 53 pvp. one red match lets thor do a 950pt hit which kills the weakest support member, i can generally match two or three yellows in the next four rounds to get off a 1500pt hit and then we're down to killing the opponents 53 who really can't put together an offensive without LOTS of time or a bunch of those yellow recharge specials... which is where juggernaut's green screen clearing charge comes in handy. also, with all three packing plenty of hp, i can get away with about six or seven fights without healing and maybe 20 or more before i run out of first aid packs.

btw, if you're not using the boosts in pvp get to it because REAL MARVEL PUZZLE QUEST STARTS HERE

I have been playing this game for 2,961 days.

Today I hit max level with my first 4* character (teen Jean)

only (does some wildly inaccurate math) 358,281 days to go before I max out the 4* tier

I have played this game quite a bit and I think it's safe to say I will never max a 4*

lol for some reason when trump got elected i lost interest in match 3s! it was the weirdest thing.

Currently enjoying the 9th Anniversary event.
Felt compelled to burn up my hoard after so much saving - went through about 50 LLs and 900 CP on the Fan Favorites event so I could finally champ Beta Ray Bill. Ended up with a pretty usable 3/3/5 Chasm who seems like he totally breaks the game?

I kept rolling LL to build up Doctor Thor but didn't quite make it all the way. She's out of the rotation now

Current legends 5*s are Phoenix Emma, Immortal She-Hulk and Chasm. Chasm will rotate out next for Arcade, so if you still want him this is the time

how often do you IAP? not judging - but i noticed the times I did and got 30 days of extra rewards it doesn't help the addiction machine flowing. sometimes i just buy a $2 thing for that

i say this as i'm about to break down and buy a $10 season pass for marvel snap because that game has got its hooks in me at the moment

I used to not do it at all but I kind of went whole hog during the anniversary season, mostly because I was so close to champing all the 5s that the extra shards from opening latest tokens were worth it (plus also extra BRB/Shang Chi/Kitty levels? Why yes I would like that very much, thank you)

totally agree, this anniversary season was excellent with those Fan Favorite picks + all the extra tokens they gave out for it

Boy do I love those Champion Reward updates... though I wonder how it effects the "economy" of the game a bit, i'll take those extra 5*s and 4*s for sure

The champion rewards and a surfeit of spending money got me to really whale out on this game and I could have gone even harder, like every chained offer they had this month seemed to be worth it (I didn’t buy all of them)

The new developers are absolutely on fire as far as the characters they’ve been rolling out. I’ve just been rolling through PVE with Wong, Clea, and 5trange (helps that Wong and Clea are boosted) and it’s been absolute carnage. Half the time, Wong starts the match with beefy strikes or protects on the board that he then buffs if anyone has the Kamar-Taj support equipped, and then you chase yellow and keep casting Wing’s yellow to put more strikes/protects on the board (with the auto buff) while any power fired from the enemy gets double-hit by passives from Clea and 5trange. If anyone gets enough AP to cast a dangerous power, you can switch them to the front and cast Clea’s blue on them, effectively shutting them down for the rest of the fight. Also, with Kamar-Taj equipped, the first cast of Wong’s yellow only costs 4 AP, and subsequent casts immediately resolve the cooldown so you can spam a ludicrous number of strikes/protects if you can get enough yellow AP

The changes are absolutely bonkers

I loaded it up for the first time in years. I got around 50 4* and 5* covers before I could do anything. Can't try out the new feature as I have no dupes, and the next 5-10 slots will go to the new characters I just got.

I have a 5* Rogue now and she single-handedly neuters half the current top characters

You can merge a maxed champ with a maxed level character, no need to champ the second one (in fact, it’s only to your advantage to max champ the first merge, it’s diminishing returns for the subsequent merges for 1-3 stars; the forums were awash in math trying to figure out the optimal strategy)

ahh ok. i am still pretty confused about some of the steps, but i just assume it's all worth it for farming better rewards besides getting a beefy low* character

That December vault seems pretty good. might spend $20 just to get the HP to (probably) get the 4 roster slots included in that vault

MPQ has one or two other "Exodia"-style instant-win conditions (I think Doc Ock 5* has one?) but this one seems more attainable, let alone the ongoing buffs you get from Dupes. Also if you able to trigger Dupes using team self-damage, cause that would be nuts...

I will need to check this to be sure but I think you can create dupes with self-damage, which is bananas.

There’s an almost instant win team floating out there of Jamie, 4* Captain Marvel, and Agent Coulson. Start with +2 boosted in all colors, then place dupes on all colors on your first turn, which triggers Coulson’s passive that spawns countdowns when an ally fires a power, then on the next turn when they all resolve three do escalating damage because of Carol’s passive that buffs SAP tiles on countdown expiration, plus Coulson generates more AP for each countdown, so likely 1-2 enemies are dead by the time everything clears, Jamie’s dupe SAP tiles have been buffed to monstrous levels, and you have enough AP to place more dupes to trigger more countdowns and buffing. It’s not very fast due to the animations but you can kill almost anyone within 3-4 turns.

Also, 5* Omega Red’s black power is fukkin nuts

madness of march vault has 4 roster slots in it, it's as good as the december one.

Multiple Man feels like they didn't fully think out that character. for example the AI team can match 3 dupes and nothing happens and their turn ends.

Honestly I think that is hilarious and one of the funniest things they could have introduced into the game.

yeah even the way his active power works and the weird way it "uses" 0 AP feels buggy

and yup, i sprung right away for the March vault. anything with free roster slots is max value at this point, i might even reset it to get more
