LeBron and Bronny James will share the court at some point during the season opener. They're going to get their photo op together, they'll get another with Ken Griffey Jr. and Sr., who will be there, they'll talk about it postgame and then we'll (maybe) move on with the season.

It's hard not to think about bronny almost dying from playing hoops, but he still plays on. Under the circumstances, the Laker publicity campaign around LeBron's dream of playing with bronny in the NBA takes on a weird ghoulish aspect. The whole situation feels very wtf.

Just binged the hell out of Court of Gold last night. Really entertaining and thoughtful doc with the focus on the competition and stakes of the Olympics. Kinda walked away from it with the feeling of an "end of an era" on multiple levels. Didn't realize it was produced in part by the Obamas, but it makes sense, it wouldn't surprise me that they may have had a hand in helping to give them access.

It also emphasized even more (if that was even possible) how insanely amazing Curry's show stopping gold winning flurry was.

Curry's flurry? I remember watching that as it built to a crescendo and was just laughing with incredulous delight the whole time. I'dfile that one under "flurries very much in character."

Considering the clutchness and stakes it's an all time flurry.

apparently saying he mixed up Tramadol and Toradol? can you not appeal that?

beyond that mixup, it’s odd to me that tramadol is on the banned substances list at all. a player really can’t take opioids at all for a legitimate purpose? how does that make sense? these guys are in pain all the time

Could it be that the testing can't accurately tell the difference between that and something else that is performance enhancing?

NBA players have round the clock medical care available to them and can get approved pain medication with one phone call. If you are taking a pain pill from your assistant’s stash that is not an honest mistake.

You need to think long and hard about why an NBA player, whose access to medical care and pain meds is one phone call away to a team doctor, would take a pain med that was prescribed to their assistant. At minimum it is incredibly stupid. At minimum.

Re: Victor Wembanyama: A deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a clot that develops in one of the major veins of the body, usually in the lower extremity. Brandon Ingram also developed a DVT in his shoulder, missing the final 19 games of the 2018-19 season.

maybe there is a difference between other blood clots and deep vein thrombosis but blood clots ended chris bosh's career. ausar thompson was also out for the first month or so of this season with a blood clot

DVT and blood clot are synonymous — iirc bosh’s was in his lungs (pulmonary embolism) which is significantly more serious. upper extremity DVTs are unusual especially in younger people, though NBA players do fly all the time (one of the classic risk factors for DVTs). I suspect the reason guys need to miss time is not because of the blood clot itself but because of the fact you almost always need to be on blood thinners afterward, usually at least 3 months

I'm trying to understand why Embiid is still playing. He's complaining that the knee doesn't let him play like he was capable of and he is going to need another procedure to correct it. Why not get the procedure now and have the rest of the season to recover so he can get in shape in the offseason.

i was trying to think of what paul george’s season reminds me of and i came up with 2011 carl crawford. carl crawford never wanted to play for the red sox but they offered the most money. he wasn’t happy, it was a bad match, his stats cratered and he wasn’t happy off the team in two years.

sixers prob want to give it a go with a "healthy" big three but its obviously foolish watching embiid move around its clear one of his legs isnt working like its supposed to, seems like a huge risk for further injury

wow that carl crawford signing! that’s a really good comp, dang. you see it more often in the NFL where players are incentivized to take the biggest deal regardless of who is offering it and it leads to lots of regretful deals where the fit is bad and the player seems miserable. wide receivers taking big bags and hating the new QB and offense etc. in the NBA it isn’t really supposed to play out like that

i think embiid is trying to show people that he is willing to play thru pain and injury for the team and city but idk how you can watch how bad he is on defense this year, how little he can rebound etc and say that it’s a good idea for him to be out there

honestly I think Embiid is a lot tougher than people give him credit for, I think a lot of the talk does bother him and that's why he's out there
