I don't even think I knew the pistons had a coach.
My vote is for laimbeer in detroit. Simone has to hire him eventually right?
― Clay, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 01:28 (thirteen years ago) link
Frontrunner in Detroit is Mike Woodson. Because a clogged toilet offense is what the worst defensive team in the league needs on the other end.
― EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 01:31 (thirteen years ago) link
well he was worthless with a few good players in ATL, how could he not be effective with garbage in detroit.

during the offseason I'm all about any trade at all just to shake things up and bring some news but yeah this trade is about as sensible as you ever see in the nba.

I like that trade. Both players need new surroundings.

that actually seems like a trade that could improve both sides! philly's offense was dire at time and steph curry would just be unleashed

(i am sixers fan and agree hard with all this analysis)
― pearsonic, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 17:22 (thirteen years ago) link
Spottie: I guess I'm a Warriors fan. I moved to Oakland as an adult and adopted them I guess. The bond isn't that strong.
My thoughts are that Mark Jackson has never coached before on any level, and that the Warriors chose to hire a guy with name recognition. But I think the key thing is that they brought in Mike Malone to be his lead assistant, and I'm hoping he can provide the substance that Jackson lacks. I do think Jackson is a good dude who will work his butt off. I think Lacob was looking for a guy who had more star power than Smart, and that's a bad way to pick a coach.
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 17:46 (thirteen years ago) link
Agree with the start power pick, that's the only thing that makes me nervous about it. Malone will definitely add some stability. I'm just kind of glad to see the warriors doing SOMETHING and not just being content to be the eternal 9-10 seed.
You need to strengthen your bond w the warriors, just submit yourself over.
― Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 17:55 (thirteen years ago) link
*star power
If the Warriors want to stop being a 9-10 seed they need to make some changes, but imo the Warriors constantly fall in love with their players even when they aren't very good. If the Logo can provide that reality check then maybe there's hope.
The fact is that Smart improved their record substantially and was still fired for underperformance. The team is delusional about how good it is. I don't think Lee/Iggy/Curry is the kernel of a 2nd round playoff team, so even if they make this trade they'll have a lot of work to do.
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 18:05 (thirteen years ago) link
Agree completely, their putting a lot on Curry to be that guy and I'm just not sure he has it, this year will tell.
― Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 18:14 (thirteen years ago) link
Curry looked like crap all year. I predict they finish 4 games below this season's record.
― blank, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 21:18 (thirteen years ago) link
Yah, i think Curry is overvalued at this point, but like others have said, third year is proving ground.
― Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 22:04 (thirteen years ago) link

― positive rapper (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 22:10 (thirteen years ago) link
curry w/o monta dribbling the clock away is a wholly different prospect. He'd be fantastic actually being able to qb a team.
― Clay, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 22:20 (thirteen years ago) link
He can definitely score, but he needs to improve a lot as a point guard and as a defender.
The only four qualified PGs with lower A/TO ratios in 2011: Dragic, Evans, Arenas, Bledsoe.
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 22:38 (thirteen years ago) link
Yeah, I agree with Clay, now that I think about it. Curry totally rocked during monta's dl stint in 09/10, iirc

― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 7 June 2011 22:44 (thirteen years ago) link
Doesn't have the natural court vision and is way too TO prone, seriously though, this year will tell all. No Monta and a good defender next to him (if trade happens) to help mask his horrible defense.
― Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 22:50 (thirteen years ago) link
He has good court vision, but not Nash court vision.

While Knicks fans fret about the possibility of Isiah Thomas returning to New York, the Detroit Pistons are considering Thomas for their vacant head coaching position, according to league sources.
Thomas is not the leading candidate, sources say, but he is on Detroit's short list along with Mike Woodson, Kelvin Sampson and his former Pistons teammate Bill Laimbeer.

lil late here but just wanted to say that im kinda pissed re mark jackson getting a head coaching position by actively trying out for it on my tv via spouting nonsense he knows to be untrue - i mean 'defense is all abt effort' ok mark jackson was well known to be one of the worst defenders in the nba, so either he gave no effort or there might be a talent aspect to defense - and then like his whole inane imitation of leadership gravitas, why were we forced to endure such inanity - im glad i dont have to hear his commentary anymore but fuck the nba for letting his dumb ass plan work

Would a longer off season significantly favor the heat?
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 8 June 2011 21:09 (thirteen years ago) link
why do you think that? it looks to me that current powerhouse teams like the Spurs, Lakers, Celtics, and Mavs are all going to be done in the next 2-4 years. I would think the Heat's main competition would be teams like the Thunder and Bulls, both of which are younger than the Heat. I would think the Heat's window is the next 5 years, right? In 2016, the big 3 will be 31, 32, and 34. Losing a year of that doesn't seem good for them.
But maybe I'm misunderstanding the argument..?
― frogbs, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 21:21 (thirteen years ago) link
the last lock out had a shorter but more compressed schedule w/lots of back to back games that were hard on the older team particularly the jazz who some argue couldve won it that year under a normal season - but i mean who knows how thingsll play out this year

people bring this up occasionally but i'd like to see some evidence that this is negatively influencing the heat - iirc they ran the pick and roll pretty effectively when they wanted to. also each of them is among the very best at his position at playing big/posting up - i'd guess that their versatility overcomes any theoretical wing overlap between them
& icey lebron is an underrated jumpshooter

the team is fine, they basically should have won the finals but dirk basically refused to lose. the huge key for them next year is getting mike miller back and able to hit his three.

dawg mike miller hasnt been 'back' for like five years #tradebron
also dirk didnt have that dominant of a finals even! miami just couldnt hit a shot, because they are bad at shooting, the only reason they made it to the finals was because they shot unusually well for them!
― ice cr?m, Sunday, 20 November 2011 04:27 (thirteen years ago) link
saying that's the 'only' reason they made it to the finals is kinda rong obv

point is as good as they are having bron and wade on the floor together because neither shoots the three that well allows the defense to collapse and they both have to work way harder than they really should to score, and then theres a defensive corollary where they dont have shot blocking in the middle so bron and wade have to kill themselves on the perimeter, like obvs the heat have ridic talent at the top but damn did they have to grind to win and it just never quite flowed/was p joyless to behold #tradebron
― ice cr?m, Sunday, 20 November 2011 04:46 (thirteen years ago) link
bron dribbles around a lot on the perimeter, p sure hes a perimeter player
heat definitely need good outside shooters to help bron and wade.
but it works both ways. the killer bron/wade combination should give the heat's shooters plenty of open looks.

theoretically this might be the case but idk, both of them had amazing seasons last year - wade shot 50% from the field first guard since jordan to do that & score 25 ppg - with any help whatsoever from pg & center they go 65-17
― mon/ seeya/ chi 2.0 (k3vin k.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 05:04 (thirteen years ago) link
